Last night, had one of the worst service and food experiences I've had in a long while. Let's see... Waited about 13min until our waitress came to our table (only after my friend asked another waitress to get ours). Was asked what do you want....um, maybe some water in this tin box (do they not believe in air condition, or are we to imagine we are on an island with the fans and flies) Finally received some water which arrived with no ice (may not be a bad thing, according to another friend and his anti-ice machine policy). Order the Raspberry Royale Mojito, very good, hence the second star. Finally ordered a couple of tapas and taco dishes. Blah blah and blah: --Calamari: Cold -- Blackbean Hummus: came with 4 tortilla chips and was actually not that bad. We asked for more chips...I'm still waiting on my darn chips. -- Grilled skirt steak skewers: lukewarm -- Chicken tacos: dry dry dry The first time I visited LL was for Cinco de Mayo this year. The self serve taco bar had WAY MORE FLAVOR than their regular menu items. Take a wild guess if I'll be back. Drinks sure, dressed really skimpy so I won't be a sweaty mess, yea, for food, hell nah.

OK, after an intense bout of food poisoning that peaked on Friday night and all but subsided by this afternoon I decided to venture out and reward myself with some real food. After a weekend of nausea, gatorade, saltine crackers and peppermint tea spiked with tums my burgeoning appetite demanded, to my horror, greasy chinese takeout, Hong Kong in Harvard Square to be specific. No, I didn't come down with another bout of food poisoning (so far), although that would be hilarious and probably somewhat deserved (methinks one can only tempt fate so much.) I've been here several times before, and found the service friendly, the food cheap, and the quality more than adequate for my Midwestern notions of Americanized Chinese food. This time, however, everything was terrible. For one, they were ridiculously understaffed (one frazzled waitress for the entire restaurant, poor thang), so after waiting forever to be seated, I then waited forever to be acknowledged, have my order taken, check delivered, etc. The food was god awful (or maybe my tastes have just improved?) The hot and sour soup was weirdly sweet, and the peking ravioli I ordered was pretty gross. I suppose everything wasn't completely terrible though, the tea and fortune cookie were perfectly cromulent. So yeah, as others have rateclubsed before me, Hong Kong is best saved for the end of a bar crawl or those occasions when you find yourself fiending for takeout, any takeout, at 2 a.m.
