Here is a story that will tell you everything you need to know about Carman's Country Kitchen. I once inquired of owner Carman- more on her later- "what do you tell a customer who comes in and wants to order just some over-easies with toast? Without a moment's hesitation, she responded "I point them toward the door and tell them that the Diner is just a few blocks away." In short, she just doesn't give a flying fig. Which is exactly what makes this place great. Her food reflects that level of confidence. Yes, she "only" serves four plates a day: a pancake/waffle (same batter) Challah French toast, omelet and 'brunch' item. that latter category could include stuff like expertly prepared southern fried chicken, seared tuna, scallops, even lamb or beef. omelets, always seasonal, are overflowing with ingredients like multiple wild mushrooms, grilled ramps and smoked Gouda. Lovers of sweet breakfasts can always count on her pancakes, waffles and French toast to be ladled with stuff like ricotta cheese, tropical fruits, infused or reduced sauces and quality chocolate. Meats, yes, they are all a la carte, bring some of the world's finest and most creative sausages from the nearby Italian Market. In case you haven't noticed, this isn't your standard breakfast shop fare. And it's priced accordingly. For fifteen or so bucks, you'll be filled to the gills with her thoughtfully composed plates. Since the place is tiny, seating less than thirty, space is at a premium, especially on weekends. Call ahead, or plan to be very, very patient. Now about Carman....she's tall, a former fashion model and although "a woman of a certain age" still quite strikingly lovely, in a statuesque way. And she possesses the most risque apron in the history of the restaurant industry. (ask her, go ahead, i dare you.) But, as i mentioned earlier, she broaches no shite from anyone. This might explain why, when early in her tenure the restaurant burned literally to ground, she arrived to find her CUSTOMERS already cleaning out the charred remains. She creates great devotion from her many fans. The unintended consequence of that is that she does so by inspiring strong emotion.  Which in turn, also generates some of the hateful remarks seen on this forum. But you know what, i'm sure Carman could care less.

Heard a lot of mixed reviews about this place, both good and bad.  While in town, finally ended up coming here with friends on a Friday night to stop off and have some fun. As it was the 2nd stop of the night, we got here pretty late.  Luckily, one of my friend's friends comes here a lot and knows people.  Thanks to him, we were able to get in without having to pay cover or wait in line.   Sweet, thanks buddy!  :-) The place was packed, but there was a lively, mixed crowd, music was good (hip hop/house), good layout (downstairs/upstairs and roomy), typical club scene, really dark inside so I couldn't tell if the decor was nice or not (seemed on the nicer side from the bits that I could see).  It didn't feel cramped, even with the amount of people there (which I liked). As I was already buzzed from our previous stop, I only had a few drinks (pricey but strong-- fine with me as long as it's bang for your buck).  Welcome to NYC!   We just hung out and danced the night away.  Good times! Nice place to close out -- I had fun!  :-)

For a fun, not stuck up bar option on the west side this is one of my favs!! It usually isn't hard to get a group of people in to this place if you go early which is a total plus for the LA area. The bartenders are SO NICE and usually make me and my friends their own shot concoctions ha which to say least are memorable experiences ha. The powder room for ladies upstairs is adorable and adds a nice touch and an area for girls to relax in every now and then if needed. For dancing, the dance floor is a little on the small side, but you really go to busby's for the people and the ambiance. Always nice, easy to talk to social people here and a much more laid back atmosphere makes it a plus in my book!
