Sunday's A Drag is now 5 years old, which is a long run for any performance production in this always percolating entertainment mecca called San Francisco.  When you take two of the most respected, vital, dedicated local legends with a great idea and let them do their thing, you sometimes get the Gold Ring, and Donna Sachet along with Harry Denton have done that with this sassy, classy brunch show in one of the most magnificent top floor Hotel showrooms with a view, in the charming Sir Francis Drake Hotel that graces the urbane top end retail scene surrounding Union Square. My partner and I decided on the Noon show, made a reservation and arrived at 11:30.  We were greeted by a young stud turned out in a tuxedo with contemporary flair who seated us in a beautiful red booth where we had a great view of the bar. the stage and quick access to the lavish buffet and fresh cooking stations which offered an abundant, gorgeous array of fresh fruits, juices, pastries, bagels, french toast, bacon, sausage, vegetables and potatoes, plus the cook to order omelet station and carving station that served up the slice of prime rib you ask for.  With all this came fixings of every possible size, shape, taste and preference, talk about abundant and lavish and those words capture the bounty and impeccable quality of this brunch. At Noon the first show started with a terrific light show of spots and colors along with some great, upbeat music.  Donna Sachet, the first lady of San Francisco, entered the showroom singing and took immediate and loving command of a show that had us crying from laughing and applauding wildly for some of the best classic drag I've ever seen.  Donna doesn't lip sync which is almost never the case in any drag show, and she is GOOD!  The songs she selected were just perfect and her sharp, spontaneous humor made the show fly by almost too quickly.  There were three additional performers at this particular show and each was sensational and a show stopper in her own right.  Holotta Tymes is sensational, a show stopper in her own right with a number combining Lady Gaga and Baby Jane in the infamous telephone routine, and then a hilarious and sexy Mae West type song.  She's really a terrific actress and knows her craft well.  Also in the cast was Cassandra Cass, also a towering inferno of talent and a television star to boot.  Rounding out the the cast was Lady Tia, another star in her own right. The show is supposedly based on the Looonnnnngggggg running shows at Finocchio's which was the most legendary drag show in America for at least a half a century.  But this is a different type of event, and as fun as any live show in San Francisco, loaded with talent thanks to the Grand Dame of this City Donna Sachet and the amazing Mr. San Francisco, Harry Denton.  This is an only in San Francisco event that I hope runs forever, and you get an excellent brunch, great cocktails and champers, fabulous service and a great mix of folks from all over the world.  This is a MUST SEE!

80s night on Thursdays are pretty fun, though sometimes it's a hit-or-miss on the songs they play. There are two dance areas - one in the front and after fighting your way through the front room, there's a back room for dancing with different music. I found the drinks to be standard and the crowd usually high energy. Overall, a good place to fall back on if your not looking for anything new.

The place would have received a fifth star if it wasn't so darn small. *sigh* My bro and I paid the five dollar cover, walked in and wondered "where's the rest of it?" But besides that... The DJ played the best of 80s and 90s Hip hop (then again, 80s & 90s hip hop was the best era of hip hop...period). I don't remember if he threw in a couple new top 40 hits (too sauced to remember). But I do know that I was shaking my lady lump to some damn good Hip Hop. Drinks were moderately priced. People (mostly Asian) usually danced with the folks they came with but after three drinks, most ventured off and danced with everyone else. I will definitely be coming back, and pay to dance in someone's living room.
