I had the pleasure last weekend of attending both opening nights at Dolce Ultralounge. A beautiful decor, plenty of room to dance, good music and a touch a glamour all added up to 2 nights of fun. The club offered one more thing that many of the clubs in South Beach have forgotten: respect for their clientele! So many people commented to me on "how well they were treated, how nice security was". On Friday night (promoted by Mauro) I danced the night away on the second floor overlooking the DJ Booth. I spent Saturday night (promoted by "Sounds of Life") in the BoilerRoom (the third floor Penthouse). Small and intimate compared to the rest of the club and definitely more loungey; it was a great place to spend the evening with friends. I look forward to spending many more weekend nights there.

I like to go into a place where there is a certain lingering anticipation that teases the senses with blessed temptation . Perhaps this is what a sensualist might say- but this was the ambiance present  at the newly baptized Yoshi's Jazz Club and Restaurant. The entranced was draped in a immaculate white travartine marble floor extending to the rotund walls that accentuated the voluptuous space. The welcoming semi lunar bar in the main parlor echoed the sultry decor inside. From the dim lighting and the singular light fixtures that seem to twinkle like stars in the night. The curvaceous beams lined the dining space above evoking the billowing clouds of the heavens. Hmmm if I could start daydreaming (rather night dreaming) here with just the furnishings, then what more with the food and music??? We were seated in one of midsection corner of the intimate and cozy theatre. The seats were relatively comfortable (high chairs), everything was impressionably brand new. Once seated we were offered the menu (I think different from main restaurant menu) from which we ordered the following: Maguro Tartare Golden Gate Sushi Roll maguro and yama imo wrapped in orange tobiko after its namesake. Geisha Sushi Roll- seafood medley of spicy shrimp tempura, sweet snow crab and maguro captivated every taste bud. Kamayaki Mixed Platter- comprised of brochettes one of lamb, chicken and beef with different marinades then grilled to perfection. These finger food were just the right invition to listen to the music that followed. The night belonged to Pharoah Sanders who brought notes from octaves of unknown depth to share his life's experiences. Launching into "My Favorite Things"  and followed with other classics as Naima, Soul Eyes- each note, its phrasing, the singular sound  expressed  their moment when human experience reaches a spiritual intensity.  I am sure the audience left that night with a sense of openness that whatever blues might come your way- experience it, learn from it, and tell the story to empower them . For Yoshi's- it may not have the historical makings  of The Village Vanguard  where its walls still reverberate with music  preached by legends of jazz, but with night after night of hearing musicians of this caliber- it will carve its own history with time. PS- Hearing Jazz in the rain, with the rain, under the rain - simply sublime- Listening to: After the Rain~ Coltrane

Went here for brunch with a group and enjoyed my french toast with pecan butter. It was very rich but tasty. It is a large space and it is nice that they were able to accomodate such a large group. Not much else to say except that everyone seemed to enjoy their food.
