Was visiting friends and they brought me here. Was really interested in seeing an East Coast type of lounge/dance club. Didn't really differ from West Coast places. Our bed was not ready yet so we grabbed drinks at the bar, while perusing the dinner menu. The bar area was dimly lit and gave a sexy feel...well, let me just say the whole place exuded a sexy feel! We then headed to our bed where we were shown where to put our shoes and donned slippers. There was a tv above us showing a Cirque de Soleil performance. The food was pretty good and the presentation was better. Service was great as well. As the night slipped by, the place got even more crowded. We headed to the dance floor where it was elbow-to-elbow room. I love checking out bathrooms and the one here was so awesome. The stalls light up when they're being used, but it's lighted in a sense that you just see someone in the stall, not everything. And I think it's a co-ed bathroom? Anywhoo, this place left a lasting impression on me. I think there's a cover charge if you arrive after the dinner charge. Since we were there for dinner, no cover for us.

Ghetto, ghetto, ghetto.  Not even ghetto-fabulous. Reminds me of clubbing in downtown Man Jose.  Get groped, get into a fight, get hyphy, GET OUT.  Quickly. And remember not to make eye contact with anybody.  Otherwise, you'll reap what you sow (refer to previous paragraph, "Get groped, get into a fight,....").

The DNA Lounge is a weird place. It has a very gothity goth goth goth reputation, which is deserved.  Despite that, it's a shame I don't like more of their shows. The guy who owns it was a programmer for Netscape, and the venue is wired accordingly, at http://dnalounge.com Every minute the club is open, there's a live video+audio stream, the audio of which is streamed directly from the sound board, so the quality is great. (I'd be lying if I said I didn't check to see when then next Chocolate Syrup Wrestling night was.) They also keep an audio archive of the past two weeks' shows, so if you can't go to a show nor watch the feed, you can listen to it any time in the next two weeks. In addition to all that, they have a pretty extensive photo gallery dating back a few years.  Really cool stuff, and WAY above and beyond what you'd expect from a concert venue. That's the kind of place I want to spend my money at. I've been there in person twice, both to see theSTART, and while the crowd was definitely more hardcore than one would expect for a new wave chick punk band, I still had a good time.  After all, we are a city full of freaks.  And if you're still scared of the crowd but don't have a ride back to Orinda, just go upstairs and watch the stage from above! ETA: Also, Wil Wheaton once boxed Barney the Dinosaur here.
