It was such a strange day yesterday. I found myself at the Improv for a late show that started at around 10pm. But what was so weird about it was that right before I went to the Improv for some comedy, I had gone to hear Marianne Williamson, this inspirational/motivational speaker, give this lecture connecting spirituality with your career. So it was strange going from that kind of a lecture to hearing pessimistic and crude comics on stage. Whatever, it's LA. Anything goes here. Despite the dramatic shift in perspective, I'm glad I went, it was a lot of fun. the Improv has a two drink minimum. They have an assortment of beers, wines, shots, and specialty cocktails. They also have bar food: fries, buffalo wings, chicken tenders, nachos, steak sandwiches, cheesecake, ice cream... The crowd was casual and diverse. So were the comics. They were all pretty funny too. Let's see, there were jokes about bitchy girlfriends, the economy, kinds of cars people drive, lack of sex, the game we women and men play with one another, family, going to jail, being black, being a black man with a white woman, and who can forget TIGER WOODS. The headliner was really funny too, but his one joke about Michael Jackson and little kids... sorry, I don't take jokes like that too well. You lost my connection with you on that. Otherwise, it was a fun night. I suggest bringing your girls and guys out to the Improv. I know we're all on a tight budget right now, but I believe it's worth paying money to go out and laugh.
