by Stephanie R. on I attended the Restaurants Against Hunger event at Touch, and I had a great time. I thought the place was chic but not pretentious, and just enough space for everyone to fit comfortably -- it wasn't overwhelming at all. I've been there other nights too, and I've always had fun! Crowd is good, drinks are good. What more do you people want?!
by Reuben D. on Martuni's is fabulous. Their drinks are good and their martinis are strong. The atmosphere is a subtle clash between old lounge charm with dim lighting, chandelliers, candles, and rich wood, with more modern music in the front. In the back room of the bar is a large grand piano where live music with an open mike is played nightly. So feel free to have a drink and hum a few bars. If you're a reluctant singer like me, you might be able to get your friends to buy you a round in exchange for your latest variation of Frank Sinatra, Journey, or Britney Spears. That's right... its basically a classier karaoke but, isnt all karaoke with martinis classy? Thought so. The lounge itself is relatively small for really big groups but you can fit them in if you try. You could, of course, always reserve the back room for a private event. The staff is very friendly and always have a smile and willing to talk to you. I happen to be friends with a girl who holds many events at this spot and the staff always come up and talk with her and have her regular drinks prepared. That's good service. I like it when a bar knows what i want before i do. It means less steps between me and my drink.
by Ahmad Venter on My friend summed up San Francisco in one-short sentence at Mission Rock Cafe: "People in San Francisco just don't give a f**k" While he was saying that about the people dancing at 4 AM at Mission Rock, I apply it to all of SF life in general. People in SF really don't care about what people think of them, they dance where they want to, throw parades and festivals to no end, and just have fun. Mission Rock really epitomizes that for me. At 4 AM drunk and dancing to a great dj, surrounded by great people without a care in the world. To Mission Rock's credit - they really have built a place large enough to satisfy any dancers desire. There is ample room and the djs really get the crowd involved. I lost my friends for an hour here just listening to music in my own little world. I am sure the people around me were laughing there asses off at the drunken fool, but I had my fun. Too bad after a night of not giving a f**K and drunken revelry you are stuck in the middle of nowhere. No cabs willing to pick you up at a place they don't even know exists (hell I didn't even know it existed).
