by Dwain Willimon on I love 1 OAK. Although it's hard to avoid middle-aged balding men in NY clubs, most of them stay off the dance floor here, so you don't have to see them grinding with young ladies. Additionally, the bathrooms are super cool and have giant gun decor on the walls.
by Billie Flickinger on I came here because it is one of the most reviewed restaurants in San Francisco. I have to say, with all honesty, that this joint serves the best taco I have ever tasted. My eating partner was from Mexico and she said that it was very authentic tasting and loved what she got. We ordered: 1) Elote - Corn with Parmesan cheese and chili powder: Too hot for me, but it's worth trying for sure 2) Carne Asada Taco Nick's Way: MUST-HAVE, damn 3) Fried Fish Taco Nick's Way: ALSO MUST-HAVE, w00t You MUST get your taco "Nick's Way," it is too good to miss out on. It basically means that you get guacamole and jack cheese on it. The environment was great: dim lighting, random chandeliers, full bar. It's an ideal place for a celebration of something. I'm coming back for sure, maybe next week. I want to try the quesadillas. Lastly, I like the location since it's not in an area that's too busy.
by charlotte s. on dive bar or not... to me this place classifies as a dive bar and i'm not a fan. got dragged in here by some friends/co-workers and i thought it was lame. and it also smelled funky in there... plus the bartenders weren't very friendly... actually more like indiffrent people who could really care less... maybe because it was a slow night? the only good thing was that it was close to home at the time...
