Eh. I don't get all the hype about Nick's. The staff is cool, yes, but I think it's weird that I get to order tacos out of the back door of one of the most random bars that I previously haunted in a Polk Street Pub Crawl several years back. Totally unmemorable night, totally unmemorable place. Perhaps you think I'm being to harsh? Let's stack up the comparison to my favorite - La Taqueria. + variety and selection on menu +serves hard alcohol - namely margaritas needed to go with your tacos. -flavorless guacamole -Nick's style doesn't do "El Dorado" style with a layer of cheese between the crispy and soft shell -hot sauce isn't hot enough -don't have chorizo as a meat option -don't get to feel Elite by ordering to off menu, secret items -not next door to Mission Pie Co. (ok ok this is kinda harsh, but seriously, banana cream pie after tacos is AWESOME!) -overall flavor doesn't have the ka-pow factor -burlesque decor that doesn't set the ambiance for Mexican food Sorry everyone, but Nick's isn't all it's cracked up to be. It doesn't suck, and it is good, especially if you're roaming drunk around Polk. But loyalties lie with La Taqueria in the Mission. Can't help it, I'm Mexican.

Eve is a pretty cool spot to hang out after work if you are looking for an alternative atmosphere to the "clown- car how many people can they really fit in this place at one time" vibe from other places like John Collins and Harlot. I'm not sure if its because Eve is fairly new or just out of the way but its normally not packed at all. There is no cover charge which is an automatic 2 stars in my book. Most of the other reviews are correct in describing the lounge as french with a feminine decor (but fellas who cares if they have a full bar and hot bartenders right?). The different and thus super cool aspect of the lounge is that they have projections screens as dividers in the lounge. Black and white films are routinely shown on the screens which gives the lounge a retro feel. Bartenders are friendly though drink prices are on the higher end. The music changes with the DJs and range from old school hip hop to 80's hits to house. Fair warning though: Be carefully leaving the club thru the exit near the DJ area. I have seen many people walk face first into the full length glass window to the LEFT of the "actual" glass door! On second thought don't be careful, life is tough and I need the laughs. All in all if you are looking for a chill place to hang before you start your week bender or just feel like lounging in an uncrowded environment, Eve might be the place for you. An added bonus is that one block down is Osha Thai which is a great place for dinner. See my review for more info.

I've been here several times. I think it's pretty mainstream, your average hollywood club. The cover on it is pretty high, but I guess thats average now a days in Hollywood. The lines were always crazy long. It sucked waiting the whole time. It's no use to go into the VIP line, I think its pretty much the same wait. Everytime I've been here, I've always had a bad impression with the bouncers and guards inside. Once I came with my girlfriends and the bouncer checking our I.Ds checked my friend's first and she had gum in her wristlet, so they said she can take one to chew but she'd have to throw the rest of the gum away. Instead of throwing it in the trash, she asked us if we wanted some gum before she chucks it. The bouncers went all crazy bananas on her, "why are you giving out gum? Your not suppose to do that!!!" ...please, it's just gum. I was next to check ID, and I said joking around that I just wanted some minty fresh breath...but he was not laughing one bit. What a prick...I was being funny. HaHa type of funny. But he didn't get it. He should lighten up. And another time we went and got through some backline and ended up in the smaller VIP room, but we weren't allowed to leave the room to go to the main room where the music was better. The guard said we weren't allowed to go in there until later...I dunno, I couldn't understand him and my friend didn't get his explanation, so I went up to him and asked for him to clarify why we couldn't go into the other room. He just said, "Why don't you go ask your friend." What a dick. I wasn't even drunk or anything...perhaps he should have taken into consideration that it was hard to hear him and he should annunciate better. All of the bouncers here have a huge stick up their ass...but hey, I'm not gonna fight them cause they are all 10 times bigger than me and I know better. The music was great though...I loved the variety and the crowd was fun. I went once for a bachlorette party and we came early for the male review. That was a bunch of fun!! You can pay for "hollywood men" and then stay for the club. Oh and I'd have to say they probably have some of the best looking go-go dancers, all of the ladies had great bodies, 6 packs almost, not that I was going ga ga over them like the men do all the time. But I do appreciate something pretty when I see them. And they weren't all skinny fake boobed girls...they actually looked healthy and toned. Jealous??? a bit...I won't lie. They were good dancers. OK...its getting a bit long...I would come here if I'm a first timer...but I think I'm pretty much over this place...I'd only go if thats where all my friends want to go. Other than that, I think its too expensive, and the bouncers suck nuts.
