by sophie h. on We have been here several times. And, I must say when Yeah! Burger opened up we were going there quite a bit and thought that it was actually better than FLIP...until we went back with a friend who was visiting us and reevaluated the situation. They really are two different types of places. FLIP is a cool hangout with masterfully executed food in both presentation and taste. Where Yeah! Burger is more about a place you just stop in at anytime for a burger. They are both good, but if you want something a little more hip and special my vote goes to FLIP!!
by Galen W. on This relatively new venue was clearly designed from scratch from the audience's perspective. It works completely. The size is perfect. Intimate, but not so small that you feel trapped. Maybe 125 seats... truly no one is stuck in the kitchen or next to the rest room door. The seats are close together, but your group of 2 or 5 or whatever gets its own table and there's no sharing-violation feel as there was in the old Plush Room. Each person gets a clear view of the stage. There are subtle step-ups and slightly elevated benches that terrace the audience is a comfortable way. Most important, the sound system is clear, full, but not overpowering. Cloris Leachman's soft-voiced stories were made audible throughout the room, yet Sam Harris' big voice was given its full dynamic range without pounding us into our seats. A very tricky acoustic feat executed flawlessly. In the tradition of an excellent cabaret, you're always in contact with the performer. They can see and hear you, when the artist is soaring, you're flying along with them. Which brings up another couple raves for this spot: 1. The bookings are top-quality: sometimes experimental, sometimes aging star, sometimes old favorite. A grand mixture that makes me want to see someone I have never heard of because they were good enough to get a Rrazz Room date. 2. The staff are pleasant, personable, and efficient. The cocktail waiters (so far we've only had men) have been unobtrusively omnipresent. No waits for what we want, and they even bring water with just one request. What I'd work on: sometimes the lines to get seated can be slow. More care and consistency for the gathering crowd would elevate the mood. Tip: don't buy VIP seating (usually an extra $10-$15) until you've scoped out the place and know what seats YOU consider VIP. I've read some complaints here about where VIP people were placed and I've watched in real life as VIPS asked to be switched back from the front row. So, unless you know where you want to sit, don't pay for someone else's idea of the best seat in the house. We have enjoyed several shows here in the past couple months. We're coming back more.
by Milton Gaber on Finally checked out The Box on a Wednesday night. I have to say that I was extremely disappointed with the show! I had heard so much about it...it just didn't live up to its hype! I still think the place is great- love the layout and decoration and there's always a show going on either onstage or off, but I wanted to see something unique and I got standard burlesque!
