by Arlynn W. on Went while they were celebrating their 3rd anniversary - took advantage of the $5 Ciroc cocktails & enjoyed a lovely "Sex on the Beach" as the bartender suggested... YUM. Was there on a Thursday night & there were plenty of tables available - take that as you will. When my girlfriend got there, we were seated at a highboy near-ish the bar, and although I would have enjoyed a table along the large banquet, I didn't say anything. I was ready to eat :-) Now, when we arrived, they were telling us all about their anniversary specials - $5 Ciroc cocktails & small plates & $10 entrees, available until 8pm = Fantastic! With our servers suggestions and feedback in mind, we each ordered an app/small plate... Hers the plantains, mine the Jerk chicken wings = the perfect amount of spice and seasoning, perfectly cooked - would have again! I'm not big on plantains, so I skipped those. Now on to the entrees, m friend ordered the duck served over a very yummy root veggie hash as her entree; lovely! And I thoroughly enjoyed Cafe Circa's take on shrimp 'n grits. It was buttery & lovely with lots of taso ham (I believe) that gave it a very salty taste - okay with me when I'm enjoying this type of grit dish. All in all, the food = fantastic, bar service = excellent, table service = a-ok. However, the time came to request our bill & make my way OTP. We were charged the full prices for both the small plates & our entrees :-/ When we asked our server about the anniversary specials, she said that our order wasn't in their computer until almost 10 minutes after 8pm - really?!? We spent a good bit of time talking over the menu with our server, not to mention those few minutes at the bar enjoying a cocktail... We were both disappointed when they were unwilling to honor the evening's special pricing. All in all, I'd go back to Cafe Circa, but probably not for another one of their celebrations unless I was quite clear on what they special would be for us, etc.
by Jenna M. on I really only go to DNA for New Wave City and the occasional band show type thing, but I always have a good time. I like that there are two floors to dance on so that I have a place to flee to when I don't like the song being played. Minus 1 star because OMFG it gets so hot upstairs and there is like only one pocket of AC air up there.
by Frances Bening on So my date took me here on a Friday night. He said he came here with the boys before, but I definitely don't see how it's a group of guys kinda place. Definitely more couples. And speaking of the people up in there, it was kinda weird to see these old people, tourists, pretty much not-so-H-town type. I did not understand how we were dressed up and others were allowed in with t-shirts and sandals as if they were coming from the beach. I mean, really now? But there were enough cool dark corners and the bartenders were pretty quick. Many times during the night I had to stop and observe (the people really did trip me out). I also kept admiring all the decorations and stuff. Kind of a weird mix, but whatever. The drinks? I don't know much about margaritas, but my date loves tequila, so he was feelin it. No complaints here.
