by wing lover on I don't even know where to start! Our night began at Kickback Jack's because we were referred there by 2 different locals. We are new to the area and wanted to watch the game and have some good football food with our family. Kickback Jack's was slammed and the waiting line was at least 50 deep. So we took the short drive to our 2nd choice and ended up at your restaurant. The parking lot was only half full, and the restaurant had plenty of seating at only 5 mins to kickoff. We chose our own table and ordered water and drinks everyone. The waitress only brought half of our party's water so some of our "large party of SIX" never got water. NEXT, she proceeded to screw our drink orders up and the look on her face let us know we did NOT want her to return our drinks to the bar and bring us something else. She looked perturbed with us and was unapologetic that she had mixed up such a simple order. NEXT, we all ordered wings and other appetizers and 2 sandwiches and one salad. They took over an hour and were not cooked to order. During the course of this hour while we waited for our food she asked us if we were "OK" at least 6 times while we were drinking and not eating yet. but after the food came, we had to basically beg her to come service our table. NEXT the food was disgusting!! all of it. We got no saucers for the Nachos for sharing and no silverware. When she finally came to remove the trays and used condiment cups from the table she dropped one of the cups on the sleeve of my shirt and soiled it and NEVER apologized. Our bill was $150 and we left NO tip! Worse service and Worse food I ever had!
by mike c. on I had dinner here last Saturday night with a friend visiting from out of town. We had reservations and were seated promptly upon arrival. Although it's a really cool looking restaurant and nicely decorated, if you're a twosome you're going to sit along the perimeter wall of the restaurant where one of you looks out at the restaurant and the other looks at the wall...but c'mon, how picky can you get?! For appetizers we had the fried goat cheese with honey and black pepper which everyone talks about. It was very good, different, and somewhat like a desert as I wanted to sop up all the honey I could with each bite. We also ordered the grilled meatballs with oregano and lemon which the waiter recommended. They were fine (maybe kind of bland) but I wouldn't necessarily order them again. For dinner I had the chili-braised pork with garlic and homemade pappardelle which is the longest standing entree on the menu. No real complaints here, but again, it's not something I would order again. We also had a half bottle of red wine from Washington state (don't remember the name) and it was superb. Our waiter must have been having an off night as he dropped things no less than three times while waiting on us -- a wine glass which busted on the floor, a fork before the meal and a plate when clearing our table but hey, everyone has a bad day every now and then. I had gone here previously and had a couple of drinks at the bar and the bartenders were awesome as was the lemony vodka drink on the drink menu. All in all, it's a really cool and distinctive place with a nice vibe. I look forward to going back and trying many more of the interesting dishes on the frequently changing menu.
by Gregor G. on While my legendary procrastination kept me away for a year or two, I *finally* experienced adults-only night at Cal Academy in Golden Gate Park. It's quite the scene, mixing music, science exhibitions, booze, happy people, no children, and lovely evening lighting with an already amazing hunk of architecture. You'd be wise to buy your ticket (great value compared to daytime admission, BTW) in advance to prevent waiting in two lines, because Thursday nights DO draw a crowd. There's tasty looking foods available, and a multitude of interesting distractions. My favorite thing remains the uppermost outdoor area, where you can really see the hills and valleys of sustainable botanicals that make up the eco-roof. Oh, and I totally want a pet platypus now.
by Arlen Maida on Meh. Nice decor but mediocre food and service. Granted, I came with a group but it took almost two hours for the food to arrive. Not a lot of vegetarian options but the Eggplant And Goat Cheese "Lasagnette" was pretty good. Salad ok. And apparently the lamb is awful and the other meats and seafood aren't great either. Entrees definitely aren't worth the $30-$40.
