I don't know how to review this place adequately... First - parking is $5 - it just is - there is little to no street parking so you just have to concede you will be valeting your car. Second - the admission fee with a two item purchase is a bummer - but that's how most commercial comedy clubs roll - so expect the total cost of the night per person to be about $30 to $40 per head (depending on what you order). The place is fine - there is a bar up front where most of the comics hang out either before or after their sets - seating inside the club is good as there truly isn't a bad seat in the house. The comedy - is commercial as opposed to alternative - and varies depending on the show/night. Tips would be to go on a Wednesday or Thursday night. Weekend nights tend to be stale and the audiences lean toward corporate/pedestrian. Ten o'clock shows tend to have the better line ups - late shows tend to get more famous unannounced drop ins.  Avoid 8:00 shows and showcases at all costs - lots of acts that are either too green or not yet established making for a very long night of "comedy". The food is what you expect for a comedy club - wings - burgers - chicken tenders - fries with some salads.  Greasy - simple and filled with calories.  I won't rate the food as that's not why you are here.  The drinks are simple and overpriced (no fancy crafted drinks just alcohol with simple mixers and beer). Of the commercial comedy rooms in LA (Comedy Store/Laugh Factory/Comedy Union) the Improv is the best one. If you truly want to see a solid night of comedy you would be better off going to one of the alternative venues or catching a show at the UCB. But if you need food along with your down the middle commercial comedy acts this is the place you should choose.

One star is being very generous. I love all kinds of bars in NYC, from uptown to downtown. For a new bar that is receiving a lot of press (no doubt they have hired a great firm I am sure for all the soft opening PR), they need to get their act together. Getting in on a Friday night at 10:30 was difficult, but when we finally did get in, the place was near empty. The doorman needs a lesson in "trying to be exclusive" but with the wrong vibe. I snuck my way past the "velvet rope" to check the downstairs out, and there were all of 3 people there. Lots of attitude for something new. I hope they get their act together fast. There are way too many other lounges/bars in the area that are more worth my time and money.

I went here the for the first time last night with the Green Bunny to see Porchlight (you guys don't know what you're missing!!), and I fell in love.  In lust.  This place is sexy and cool and intimate and if it were a woman, would have the perfect shade of matte red lipstick on at all times. How is it possible that I have missed this perfect watering hole all of these years? Seating is comfortable, and after enjoying some $5 beer & wine, we settled in at a side table and enjoyed the show.  And, we even had some food served to us by a sweet sprite of a waitress who served the entire room all by herself. I love the intimacy of the space, but it's roomy enough not to feel crowded.  The low lighting and deep colors, and speakeasy vibe are great.  I love things that are underground and dark and smell like alcohol.  I love rooms with dark corners.  I love being so close to the stage that I can imagine that a performer is looking right at me. Cafe du Nord, je t'aime!  Je reviens!  A bientot.
