I went to Apple on a Tuesday night after dinner at La Dolce Vita. Overall, it's an okay hotspot in West Hollywood with some very attractive patrons. Is there depth and longevity here? Probably not, just how it always is with club/lounges in the area. DOOR: Easy to get in on a Tuesday, pretty much because it was almost dead when we got there at 11:30 and freezing cold. The place filled up after a birthday party arrived but that was it. CROWD: Definitely hip, attractive, and kinda standoff-ish. Although everyone looked like they could have been in the latest issue of Nylon, no one was really that into dancing or socializing. It was more of a "stick with your own people" type of crowd versus mingling; people usually only talked to the people they knew, or if they saw someone more interesting. However, everyone was very good-looking and I found the answer to "Where are all the hot guys at?" They're definitely at Apple. I just don't know if they're worth talking to... MUSIC: The DJ was really good; he kept everything to 90 seconds or less so you were always moving, always grooving. There were a couple crazy danceoffs and that was fun, but it felt like an 8th grade dance! When a song came on that nobody liked, people would immediately split to their tables and my girlfriends and I found ourselves dancing almost completely by ourselves in the middle of the dancefloor! It's like the sea of people instantly parted and I could see the floor. Also, no one really danced with each other and instead stood around and talked. So yes, I felt like I was 13 again. LAYOUT: I like that there is an outdoor patio area and that the stairs to get to the upstairs bar/lounge are not suicidal. It's a little small and I wish I'd seen EVE on the other side but it was closed that night. Also, the one person bathrooms suck. All in all, Apple is a mellow place to go to on a early weekday if you have nothing to do and you like to dress up for fun (which I do, occassionally), but it's not my scene. Plus, it seems really cliquey and what's the point of going out if you're not going to meet anyone new? There are better executed lounges in the area, definitely.
