Well, a girlfriend and I popped into Pure by default because Fritti was packed with World Cup viewers. I ordered the Torta Cubana sandwich based on our waitress recommendation and was pleasantly surprised. It was a very large s'wich and quite flavorful. I wasn't in the mood for a sandwich, but this was pretty darn good. My friend tried mine and she loved it too. I wasn't very impressed with the other menu selections, especially for this to be a Mexican spot. I thought their menu selections were a bit pricey for Mexican. I mean everyone knows that Mexican is CHEAP! OK, the chips and salsa were just average, nothing fancy at all. They serve the salsa in a very small container, much like the container you would be served at most restaurants when you order a house salad. Whatever happened to bringing out a small bottle of salsa so we don't run the h#ll out of our waitress. Two dips of that salsa and it's empty. Overall, did I like the first time experience at Pure...Yes. Will they be in my regular rotation.... No. Remember, I had a Cuban sandwich at a Mexican restaurant. The menu selection left something to be desired.

Girl I was in to - "You should come out salsa dancing" Me - "Salsa? I can barely stand on my own two feet while standing still." Girl I was in to - "Have a margarita and then come" After that conversation I learned a few things: -Salsa dancing is the key to any girl's heart -Salsa dancing is a great workout -You don't have to be good to impress anyone -Salsa dancing is easy after 1 Margarita, but more than that can make it hard, albeit fun. A year after that initial conversation, I am now a regular. I ended up falling in love with the music and the dance. From what I hear, they serve food during the day, but I don't bother with it. I go to salsa. With the Brew, the live band that plays on Thursdays, it is hard to pass up. My favorite days are those that they open up the upstairs area since there is generally more room to spin around and stuff up there, but otherwise Thursday nights are great especially if you're under 21 as it is their only 18+ night. The people there are incredibly friendly, including with people who have never danced before. Drinks are moderately priced, but most people who go to dance don't have more than a beer or two anyway. I think on Thursdays at 8 o'clock they also have beginner classes at 8PM so if you're interested in that I'd check it out.

MJQ feels like a dark garage or cave. Yet I find this venue to be a refreshing change from the Buckhead scene. I am always highly impressed with the music (great DJ's) and the crowd is very peculiar. Really, entering MJQ like being thrown in a jar of mixed nuts (in a cave). I've met Emory students to professionals to indie/emo types, to a drag queen I chatted with while washing hands in the bathroom. I'm actually torn between three and four stars, because I've had such uniquely fun experiences here. Okay, we'll go with the fourth :o)
