I'd be willing to give this place another chance. I wasn't feeling the crowd the evening we were here. Saw a few modelesque type girls (aka super tall and super thin) with a lot of short suits trying to vie for their attention. But it wasn't the elite crowd I was expecting. The DJ played decent music but there really wasn't all that much room to dance unless you had bottle service and a table to dance up on. Drinks were pricey and not all that strong (to be expected). The decor was nice and the door man let us in without waiting in line and without giving us a hassle. I'd definitely check this place out on another night before making a final decision about it!

I've seen two remarkable shows here, and one horrible show. I'll start with the horrible one. Remember The Samples - hot during the jamband phase of the mid to late 90s? When everyone seemed to have at least a couple Dave Matthews and Phish albums. Everyone had some friend who'd toured with Phish to Boulder, CO, sucked down a few too many nitrous balloons, and in the process discovered some band like Toad the Wet Sprocket or The Samples? Or was that just my friends? The Samples live on. They don't sound nearly as good now that I'm not loaded on nitrous and malt liquor. In fact, they didn't sound good at all. Luckily, Cafe Du Nord's bar room is set back from the stage and has a pool table in the back where you can pretend someone just put on a bad song on the jukebox... for three hours. Nearly everyone left after the intermission. Unfortunately for the band, Cafe Du Nord is a small enough place that they would really notice that. They should have just pretended they were coming back for their encore and be done with it. The amazing shows: Ledisi in 2002 and Mason Jennings in 2004. If you ever get a chance to see a decent band playing here, do it in a heartbeat.
