I have a soft spot for Medjool. Maybe it's the hassles they've had with the rooftop bar. Maybe it's the waitstaff that seems to always be friendly. Maybe it's the food. Maybe it's all of the above. I do like the food. I've eaten here enough now that I know pretty much what I'm gonna order before I walk in the door. I know what the art on the walls will be...the color of the walls, the out-of-place chandeliers on the main floor. I know this place pretty well. I always start with the hummus sampler but I go with no Baba Ghanouj and double hummus. I love the Chicken with Almond-Pomegranate Sauce. There's usually an order of the Pommes Frites with Parsley and Preserved Lemon. There is always an order of Moroccan Chicken B'stilla with cinnamon, and almonds. If we're particularly hungry we'll add an order of Coffee Marinated Flat Iron Steak, potato cake, and red wine sauce. They all always come out exactly the same and that's fine with me. It's Middle Eastern and North African comfort food...with portions just right for two. The tempranillo is fine...nothing for Spain to crow about particularly but it works just fine with this food. Our server is friendly. Parking is easy in the lot on 21st. What more can I ask for? Not much. I feel really comfortable here.

I think some people will really like this place but it was not for me. I did not have a bad time but I did not have a really great time either. If you really just want to go and dance it is pretty good. They don't play a lot of new music but they do play a lot of good danceable music. I went on a Friday and they played every type of music. The only thing that I did not like were like the medleys where they would not allow the song to play through. Also, they do switch dj's around 12 or 1 am so keep that in mind as well because the first dj is better. This is not the place to go to hook up unless you are a woman over 35 or a woman of another age looking for a sugar daddy. The drinks were just okay. Finally, do not believe the fliers or website which still promote Fridays as being free until 12 for ladies. It is only free until 10pm. Oh and if you want to eat get there early because though they have a lot of seating people camp out there all night so there isn't much opportunity to get one unless you get there early.

After much ado my friend and I decided to swing by Harlot one weeknight. We were both expectant yet ambivalent. Getting inside the lounge was a breeze since we had RSVP-ed. The lounge itself is attractive and well done -- seats are plush, music was decent without being obnoxiously loud and crowd seemed interesting and hip. Having said that, ordering drinks at the bar was like trying to make the Sphinx smile. The bartenders were incredibly inept, very standoffish and downright unfriendly. I realize this is a predominantly straight bar so getting people to stand in lines (to order drinks) might as well result in a constitutional amendment, but seriously if the bartenders don't even attempt to find out who is next then they need a new job. Oh and what's with the stepford guys that all look the same, and have gay undertones? It totally messed with my head. Oh well.
