by Laura W. on In many American cities, if while at a club with elbow room, if the music is remotely good, at a certain point the generic crowd sway emerges from the cocoon and the crowd begins to dance. So familiar is this phenomenon, that Kevin Bacon's whole career is built around this shared experience. New York bureaucracy was not making money that way though, and through the cabaret license, made dancing an elusive activity to pursue. Ladies and gentleman- Greenhouse is your place. Not only is it green (woop!), but on a recent Sunday night the crowd DJ was mixing old school and new dance hits, and the crowd responded to the call. Now, my review may me slightly more favorable due to the fact that me and my friend got called out of the basement area, and got escorted upstairs, bypassing the $25 cover charge. I will say its much cooler (temperature wise) in the upstairs area, and with greater access to the bar tender and the bathrooms. Either way, the dancing is good though.
by Karl Ortis on I think I am about to commit "rateclubs Blasphemy" again with this review, but heck, I gotta give you the realness. From a decor standpoint SCK felt like a house that would be sitting in the 2008 version of Gone with the Wind. I am not sure when it started, but the trend of putting restaurants in old houses, is pretty damn cool to me. Hard wood floors that are easy to bust your ass on, and white linen table cloths give SCK a classic feel. The service was absolutely amazing. And while thats not the end all be all for me, it certainly makes a dining experience incredible when your server knows the menu inside out, takes his time presentation, and can upsell food without sounding like he works at TGI Fridays. Cant remember his name, but he was damn good. As far as the food, I sampled/tasted a number of differernt items. We started the meal off with Fried Green Tomatoes coupled with Goat Cheese. These were pretty good, the goat cheese made them special, but I cant sit here and say that I wouldnt have been just as pleased with some tomatoes from Po Folks...yes, i said it, Po Folks. Dont get me wrong, the tomatoes were good, but I would have liked to have more than three of em......... Two soups were brought out for sampling purposes, one was the She Crab soup (or something like that) which was absolutely phenomenal, The other was a soup that had collard greens in it, I cant remember the name of it, but it was pretty unforgettable. Next came the house salad that was tossed in a tasty vinagarette. After that came the entrees. I got the buttermilk fried chicken after hearing all the rateclubsers scream, shout, and dance about it.....and frankly, I expected more. Not saying it wasnt good, I just thought it woulda been so good, I woulda ran out the restaurant....not the case, still, The Beautiful has the best friend chicken in Atlanta. Period. My dining mate got the Braised Niman Ranch Lamb. This lamb was so damn tender that it fell apart with the touch of the fork. I was amazed by the tenderness, but even more amazed when i put all that "lamby goodness" in my mouth. This lamb is actually what Id come back to to South City Kitchen for, not the chicken. In all, great dining experience. Food was pretty good, lamb was amazing. The service was spectacular...completely worth it...
by Sergio M. on ha ha! Very Pretensious... so much unlike the rest of the places in Boston. You better know the right people if you want to come here or it won't be as fun. They have a $20 cover. The salsa room is nice. Drinks are also expensive, around $12 each. The ladies are cute, all dressed up, mostly international. This is a lot like going to a night club in Mexico City. Music is great, loud and clear. therer is a dance floor in each room. Very dark place, literally.
