There are two types of people in the world (well, three, if you count vegetarians, but we all know they're not really people): Those who eat steak, and those who eat hamburgers. I am definitely a hamburger type of girl, with the small requirement that it be a restaurant-style burger - it may not be steak, but you should still get to order it like one :) Bobby's Burger Palace breaks a few rules of the restaurant-style burger, though. While you do get to choose how you want it cooked and the prices are indeed north of $6 (not exceedingly so, with the classic cheeseburger starting at $6.50), fries don't come with. And it's not a restaurant, it's a "palace." You kind of have to go to understand what I mean when I say it looks like a restaurant, feels like a bar and functions like a fast food joint. You start by ordering and paying at the register, but then after you seat yourself (after all the work is done, right?) someone suddenly shows up who looks like a server and acts like a server but is mostly just there for moral support, because if you try to order a beverage from this person, they will do something like give you an empty cup and direct you to the self-serve soda fountain. But they do bring you your food, based on the number placard you set on your table (and bus your plates away after you're done). The system might sound a little awkward, but it actually runs completely smoothly and efficiently as far as I can tell. It's probably somehow a profitable strategy, but for the unassuming customer it means no hassle of splitting the bill or paying tip. I've come on two occasions and on the first, I tried the L.A. Burger, which I thought was good but too salty (it's pretty heavily seasoned). The latter sentiment faded away as my taste buds readjusted so I was fully in burger heaven by the last few bites. The "avocado relish" is amazing and aptly named (it's sort of a pleasantly sweet, chunky guacamole), and I liked how instead of lettuce there were some sprigs of watercress. I also went all out on the sauces, which are in plastic squeeze bottles (the unmarked white vans of the condiment world) next to the salt and pepper shakers. I never took a bite without drizzling some chipotle ketchup or jalapeno hot sauce on it first. Because of this, the second time I went, I thought I could get away with getting the cheeseburger since I knew I'd be all about the sauces anyway. Bad idea, because the iceberg lettuce and onion were overpoweringly fresh (when have I ever complained about freshness?). I preferred the softer texture and more complex flavors of the L.A. rendition, which meshed better with the sauces. As for drinks, I've ordered the frozen pear cactus margarita which is a complete steal at $4.50 because this thing is positively doused in alcohol, but that's about the only reason to feel good about getting it. It's the shade of peptol bismo, and tastes worse - like liquid salt. While "pear cactus" certainly sounds like an appealing flavor, all it did for the drink as far as I'm concerned is shock it into a color not occurring in nature, and make it "spiked." I've also tried the vanilla milkshake, which unfortunately looks better than it tastes and is definitely overpriced at $5. I can see how their milkshakes might bring some boys to the yard, but I was unimpressed. I think they use real ice cream (with visible specks of vanilla!) which is commendable but as the texture is too thin it starts getting runny pretty fast... Such potential but when it comes down to it, a real wet blanket. I've had better milkshakes at Wa-wa and Wendy's! (But then again I really like those.) As good as the burgers are, the big draw of Bobby's Burger Palace for me has to be the layout, which somehow feels both retro and contemporary, both refined and informal. Because the countertop-style tables are communal, it's more of a public space than most restaurants where you get your own isolated cove; it's kind of like a family-friendly bar or an indoor picnic area. (At peak hours, I'd recommend going with one or two friends max to find seats easily.) The Palace's appeal may be its novelty; it feels trendy and gourmet but not bougie. But it's also the kind of place that you can't go to too often without wearing it out. While I loved it the first time and would recommend it to the uninitiated (omnivores, anyway), I personally feel decreasingly enthusiastic about it with each visit - not because it has changed, but precisely because nothing has.

This could be my new favorite place in Hollywood. Why? 1. Spacious, classy and lots of sitting places in/outdoors 2. Beautiful unpretentious crowd 3. Confetti drop when we went 4. Brittney, the cigarette girl 5. I MADE $17 WHILE CLUBBING Yes , you heard right. It was so random. I don't know if it was just because it was a special night for Loyola Law Students, but it was GREAT.  First off, NO hassle going in. This was the case the 1st time where I have been here as well. Then, the bar was big enough for us not to wait a long time. The music was stellar, but the go-go dancers were a bit strange dancing- It was a mixture of krump/dancing in your underwear/jumping jack -taebo action. HAHA. Anyway, then we had 2 confetti drops which made drunk girls squeal and finally around 1pm 2 guys from the 2nd floor dropped COLD HARD CASH. Being the cheap ass I am, I jumped off the stage and started pushing drunk bastard legs away so I can collect. All in all, $17 for clubbing- AINT TOO BAD!!! I love this place. My new happy place for a club.

I second Flip C's remarks. Generic Gay Bar. Generic Gay Dudes. Overall I would be inclined to give it a 2, maybe a 2.5, but they had to have played the worst music I've ever heard, and in the course of one hour. I mean, how can you play (NO JOKE) Paris Hilton, Cher, 2007 Brittney Trainwreck, Lindsay Lohan and others? Back to back?!? And they weren't trying to be ironic! I think it must have served as a homing beacon to all of Atlanta's homos, though, because the place was getting packed for 10 p.m. on a Wednesday night. I gladly gave up my seat for the rest of them.
