a wack version of D&B's only minus any games (other than pool). Oh yeah, and the bar food isn't really bar food so unless you equate Calamari and Chardonnay to a sports bar then you don't want to be here. My recommendation...go to Peet's Tavern on King St if you want a pool table, good bar food and plenty of sports with the added benefit of having few d-bags.

Door 44 is in its' "soft-opening" couple of weeks before their grand opening April 16th. Check it out - great servers, great drinks, GREAT management. It's rockstar glam in midtown - a VERY welcome change from the usual bars/clubs in the area. This will definitely be one of my regular hangouts.

This comedy club off Melrose is one the most well known in the city of angels and has special guest appearances by well known comics - even I recognized most of their top named guests and I am far from being in the know as far as stand up go. But the best thing about their guests is that most are/have been stars of their own show on TV. My friend and I were looking for places to go, people to see, things to do on a Sunday night to postpone our newly adult bedtimes and Improv definitely kept the weekend alive. We called to find out that they had tickets available for both the 8pm and 10 pm show (2 shows on a Sunday night!). If you buy the ticket online, it charges you a fee. We decided to run over there early and buy the tickets at the door (we're cheap). Tonight's guest: Drew Carey! Like the guy who had the Drew Carey Show and Whose Line Is It Anyway!! We bought the tickets from a short LA girl in a mini booth at the front - I almost didn't see her. We then sat at the empty bar to have a few drinks before the show started in a hour. Just as we were wondering where everyone was and if we were going to be the only ones here to see Drew Carey (speaking of the devil), he sat down on the stool right next to us! About 30 minutes before the show, the young, dating, not quite professionals yet crowd started rolling in. With drinks in hand, they laughed and smiled and mingled even into the bathrooms. The showroom is filled with tables so that you can continue drinking (beer is about $5, bar drinks are about $8, and their specialty drinks are more) and even order a light snack (calamari, French fries, chicken wings - all a bit pricey for what you get). The young waiters are generally in a good mood, but you can tell that they are working just for a tip. The show lineup consisted of a few regular comics from the area (mostly talented and funny), first time stand ups (bluntly speaking, they sucked), and of course the guest, Drew Carey (he laughed at his own jokes and at himself for being so fat). It lasted just under two hours and we were in bed before midnight! It was a perfect choice for a Sunday night.
