by Geneva W. on Could it be? A place in Hollywood that lacks pretension AND has free parking?! Yes, folks, it's true...such a place actually exists! They have flamenco performances every other Wednesday night, and since I LOVE LOVE LOVE all things España, I had to check it out. I had never heard of this place before, but I've passed by it many a time since it's located in a shopping center right on Sunset, one block east from the Palladium. There was a $10 cover but the entertainment was absolutely worth every penny! This was my first time seeing a live flamenco show, and it was awesome! The music was absolutely beautiful while the featured dancer gave an intense and amazing performance. I loved it! The food was great, reasonably priced and served in huge portions! The spinach quesadilla appetizer was divine, a definite must-try. The jambalaya was really good too, not too spicy and full of chicken, sausage, shrimp and peppers. I think that one plate could serve 3-4 people alone. The space itself is small and cozy with low lighting and candles on every table. The stage is to the right of the entrance, and there are booths on the sides and plenty of tables in the middle. Get there around 10ish to grab a seat or else you'll have to stand at the bar in the back. This place is great for a romantic, quiet date...the music really gets you in the mood for some bow chicka wow wow.
by desiree n. on came to see a mellow indie-esque show here. was tired. did not really want to be out. but this place was aight. a girl even passed out on the floor at some point.
by Eldon Oleksy on I went to NYC 2 years ago to check out Chus and Ceballos on a Thursday night. Chus and Ceballos tends to have a very large gay following but to my surprise there wasn't too many shirtless guys. I found some discount guestlist that I signed us up for and we got in for $10. The venue is small but i was really actually nice and quaint. We went out to the tiny patio and everyone was very friendly and it wasn't as meat-market with guys jocking you left and right like the other nightclubs we frequent. It was a bit hard to find, the cab driver didn't even know where it was but luckily some guy at a restaurant was on his break and could tell we were lost and pointed us in the right direction. The crowd was very friendly (even when we mentioned we were from LA). Sound system was nice and the bar was a bit expensive but it was about the same price as every other place in NYC.
