So my friend Cass invited me to Greenhouse the other night for free drinks and free entry. She wasn't really clear what was going on--a promoter friend? a friend with bottle service? a secretive handjob for the angry bouncer??--but was positive I wouldn't have to pay. On that point, she was right--I spent $1 the whole night, on tip for my first drink. (And no I'm not totally stingy, I just never had to go back for my own drinks after that.) About everything else, not so much. Here's what I liked about Greenhouse: - One hour open vodka bar. Here's what I didn't like so much: - Waiting outside for 45 minutes because the door manager was late. (Apparently, my promoter friend says, this is not unusual at all.) - Waiting outside another 15 minutes because the bouncer decided he didn't like the look of the group I was with (read: myself, two other reasonably hot chicks, and 4 guys who came with the promoter... NOT with us). - The decor. Did someone go shopping at JoAnn's?? - The people downstairs. (Sorry, foreign guy who looked like a creepy Neil Patrick Harris, not only am I not here man-shopping, but don't lean your whole body across my lap to talk to my friend. Don't touch me, just don't, because I will tear your European testicles off with my bare hands. Oh but thanks for the drink, by the way.) - The people upstairs, ie., the rich twenty-somethings with bottle service dancing on the couches with bottles of Jack in hand. Not my scene. Come meet me at my local instead, please.

The only reason I go here is because it's half a block away. The music is way too LOUD, but they have a great selection of wine that's well-priced and the attendants tend to pour generously. They're at that age where they don't really give a fuck and they think of everyone who comes by as a poor Academy of Art student. I love it! I wouldn't recommend going on the weekends when it's even louder and packed, but that's just me---as I've gotten soft in my old age.

There's not much I can say that hasn't been said by the two hundred or so people before me, but I've got this on my list of items "to review" so I better get it out of my system. It's good, it deserves the hype, go eat there. That's pretty much about it. Parking is going to be a bitch. I recommend doing what I do -- ride motorcycles and park on the sidewalk. This is Atlanta so it's not like anyone is walking on those sidewalks. If you're in a cage, be aware that the parking is VERY limited in comparison to the seating. Also, bring all your friends with you. They're not going to sit a partial party and as crowded as this place gets, you hate to see that booth you had your eye on vanish to an undeserving lout. They only have three or four large seating booth areas, so be prompt! Finally -- come back. Again and again. FLIP is the type of place where I just want to try every little thing on their menu. Luckily their burgers are not "big" in any sense of the word so you can always order several at a time. Oh! Sorry, one last thing ... follow them on twitter! They regularly tweet menu changes - like the burger of the day and any new/interesting milkshakes they come up with. Today's burger of the day has something to do with pork belly. Yum.
