So my friend Cass invited me to Greenhouse the other night for free drinks and free entry. She wasn't really clear what was going on--a promoter friend? a friend with bottle service? a secretive handjob for the angry bouncer??--but was positive I wouldn't have to pay. On that point, she was right--I spent $1 the whole night, on tip for my first drink. (And no I'm not totally stingy, I just never had to go back for my own drinks after that.) About everything else, not so much. Here's what I liked about Greenhouse: - One hour open vodka bar. Here's what I didn't like so much: - Waiting outside for 45 minutes because the door manager was late. (Apparently, my promoter friend says, this is not unusual at all.) - Waiting outside another 15 minutes because the bouncer decided he didn't like the look of the group I was with (read: myself, two other reasonably hot chicks, and 4 guys who came with the promoter... NOT with us). - The decor. Did someone go shopping at JoAnn's?? - The people downstairs. (Sorry, foreign guy who looked like a creepy Neil Patrick Harris, not only am I not here man-shopping, but don't lean your whole body across my lap to talk to my friend. Don't touch me, just don't, because I will tear your European testicles off with my bare hands. Oh but thanks for the drink, by the way.) - The people upstairs, ie., the rich twenty-somethings with bottle service dancing on the couches with bottles of Jack in hand. Not my scene. Come meet me at my local instead, please.

Ok. 3-stars. I really really really wanted to like this place, but the first time around (maybe last) didn't really do it for me. Don't get me wrong. The food was great. But the service? Pretty bad. The waitress first passes us over for drinks after taking the orders for half off the table, then brings me the wrong drink. She was slow, and obviously over-worked and we were served by a variety of people none of them were actually her. It took her close to 20 minutes to bring us our check, and then to run our credit cards. We were there over two hours.

bleh. i know you can't expect much for an open bar until 1030. but do not tell me and my girlfriends that you can't give us two drinks a person, then serve the fellas next to us two three drinks each. bitch, that is not cool, just cuz they have something dangling btwn their legs does not mean that you will. and the place smelled like puke by the end of the night. ugh, this is why i don't go out to big clubs in la anymore. well i never really did, bc i partied more down in sd, but that's beside the point. i will continue to keep to the chill spots where peeps know for to handle their alki and bartenders actually tend to their customers.
