A resounding yes to sitting outside on the water, enjoying the breeze and sway on the top level of the pier, sunburning my nose, and essentially lazing away the afternoon with bar fare and a good friend. A $10 veggie burger that doesn't come with fries or a pickle is kinda bullshit, but oh well. More than a few irritating, loud youngin' types, but also plenty of chill folks hanging out with their friends/partners/dogs. The boat itself is a trip. If my rent skyrockets, I'm moving in to the lower level -- and bringing a flashlight and fresh sheets.

Having lived a block away from Halo for 2+ plus years during 2005-07ish years, I found myself ending up at Halo literally three nights a week. It was kind of like my neighborhood "Cheers" (along with MidCity Cafe), and I guess I became somewhat of a regular (not sure if that is a good thing?). I no longer live just a block away, but I still manage to make it into Halo randomly. The bartenders and front door staff are cool, and I always felt comfortable going there. I didn't even know there was a cover to get in? When I go back now, it seems to be overrrun by cheesy Buckhead folk who seem to be lost since Mako's and LuLu's Baitshack were demolished. There is hope - now that T&G has re-opened at Lindbergh, maybe the cheesiness will slowly disperse in that direction. Fridays/Saturdays are always way crowded and overwhelming. You can't really move anywhere in the bar area. Never have been a fan of the music there, but good bar, good drinks, and good times were had more often than not!

I believe Europa is a Polish dance club that is trying to become more hipster-friendly, as there is a decent sized hipster contingent living in the neighborhood. The actual space itself is a good size - there is a small bar downstairs with a pool table, and a large space upstairs for the DJs/bands/performers. There is also a small room off to the side called the "gallery", filled with lots of couches. The interior is done up to look like a castle, but it's pretty cheesy with painted stone walls and faux stained glass. The thing that bothered me the most about this place other than the band's music being WAAAY too loud (maybe I'm just getting old) was that they had these cheap ass red candles burning all over the place that smelled horrible. They were not supposed to be scented, but they gave off this rubbery odor that made me wonder how long it will take the toxins to give me a tumor. Europa is ok. I'd go back if a friend's band were playing, but I don't think I'd go just to hang out - there are better places in the area where you can chat without screaming.
