Seafood by day, sausage by night. 1. Daytime: Seafood Restaurant Almost our entire table had the surf 'n' turf. We all liked it, but for $23, portions were a bit small. 2. Nighttime: Frat House Somehow they turn this relatively classy place into a drunken shitshow at 10 PM. The very same booth in which we dined turned into a table for drunkards to dance on and fall off of. Mayes is basically a bunch of plastered 20-somethings, largely guys, packed together like sardines (or whatever canned seafood you like). Oh, and there is usually a line to get into the sardine factory.

About seven years ago I really liked the place but each time I came back the crowd just started to become more annoying and more of a meat market. vibe Sorry Saint... we had a good run initially

I've come here about once a year over the last few years. The first time here it was an over-the top experience ... food was fantastic, drinks strong, the show was amazing. Essentially a modern-day Moulin Rouge. Visiting this place is a bit of a one-trick pony - it's interesting the first time around, but this simply isn't the kind of place to go dine or hang out with any frequency. It's an experience, not a restaurant, and one best enjoyed once only. With this in mind, I knew that when I went there a second time that it would less special. But, since it had been a year since my first visit I still expected to enjoy the experience. I was surprised as the level of difference this time indicated a dropoff in overall quality. The food was no longer special, only average, and the portions smaller. The show was less engaging, allowing me to be more observant of the weaknesses of the place. Third time, food was mediocre at best and the show, frankly, uninteresting. Even with these negatives, though, I'd still recommend it to folks who are from out of town looking for an unusual SF (via Amsterdam) experience and won't mind the expensive price tag (more than $100/head with drinks). After all, on the plus side, the beds are cool, and the wait staff has always been solid. The DJ's music selections are great and the people watching can be interesting. But it's definitely not what it was ... and I can't imagine why I'd give it another go.
