Like another reviewer, I was here for Lebowski Fest. What a great venue for this event! Mezzanine has a big floor for taking in the bands on the stage (Meshugga Dance Party and The Dead Hensons), interacting with the crazy Extra Action Marching Band, or watching The Big Lebowski on the big screen - plus an upstairs for relaxing or taking it all in with a view. This show wouldn't fit in some of the bigger-name venues, but was perfect for the Mezzanine. There are 4 bars throughout, and the 'tender at the upstairs bar had just the right mix of sass, attitude, charm and efficiency. She knew her repeat visitors quickly (a nice touch) and ran a tight ship. Of course, the white russians were flowing that night, and Jeff Dowd was making friends with everyone in the crowd. I've never heard so many people yell movie lines in unison before - lots of movie dorks having lots and lots of fun. All in all, a great show that went down in the right venue.

my, my, my, my, my, my, my, my Middlesex is the sort of place you're liable to hear something like "Skinny Love" by Bon Iver playing early on a Thursday night, before the DJ starts to spin and things get crowded. The bar menu had some creative bites listed but I was content to snack on the gratis wasabi peas and mixed nuts our bartender placed before us as I nursed my Dark and Stormy. They've got a nice vibe going on at Middlesex. And if you start drinking here at 5:30 you'll avoid the masses and enjoy the sparse space with a semblance of peace.

Jillian's has a lot going on. I think the main attraction is the arcade- it's filled with tons of games-even some you can ride. But for those that like to drink, Jillian's offers plenty of opportunity. From the downstairs bar to the upstairs nightclub, you can get smashed and then go out and race your friend on some motorcycle game or challenge each other in a rousing game of skee ball. I recommend the nightclub. While there's usually no one in it, they have fantastic drink specials (when I went, they had $1 martinis) and the DJ will play anything you ask. Check it out!
