It's not my favourite Starr joint but it's quick and easy and in a good location, and there's probably something for everyone in your party on the menu. You can get a few plates of small-bites or an entree. You can get cheesesteak eggrolls (oink) and an enormous plate of crispy shoestring fries. You can get lobster mac and cheese (but I think it's gone downhill in the last year or so, they have changed it up a little). You can get the onion soup dumplings but make sure you're not in love with what you are wearing, b/c you'll be wearing the onion soup dumplings after one bite. The Continental specializes in fancy martinis and mixed cocktails and since I'm not 25 anymore, I don't really go for that. Give me a big-ass glass of a nice red wine and I'll be good, thanks. Although, they used to offer a martini served with a Camel Light and a pack of matches, which cracked my shit up. Cool decor. If you're in a party of two, see if you can get a seat on the second floor and sway around in one of the rattan chairs suspended from the ceiling. Also, it's a Steven Starr place so be prepared to be freaked out over the bathroom.

I have been to both locations, and they both are a let down. The food is terrible. Every time I have gone, I go with hopes that it will be better than the last, but it just isn't good. I love shrimp and grits, and I absolutely hated theirs. Noting redeeming about it. The grits lacked flavor and the cojita cheese was a bad choice. I also had the chowder which had an odd ingredient that I could not pinpoint, but ruined the entire thing. I think I took 2 bites of each and nothing was worth eating. The tacos were OK, but nothing I would eat/order again from here. The hushpuppies were disappointing - also lacked flavor. The only thing I tasted was jalapenos. The spicy rat toes were the only good thing I tasted there.

Ever feel like you just didn't belong? I do, every time I walk into Candle Bar. You get the look from everyone at the bar when you walk in, weird. Its a off the beaten path dive spot with low playing music. It's the type of place that you get an eerie feeling. After an hour of lightly priced drinks and eyes judging my outfit, i realize that their are NO WOMEN in the bar and crowd is young and engaging. Still it was an ok dive to stop by for a drink.
