Wow, so I've been here on a few occasions during the weekend when it turns into a madhouse with napkins floating down on your head every few minutes, but just went on a weeknight and it was (crickets). Quiet. So quiet in fact, that we were the only people there. I guess everyone saves up Plaka for a weekend night. But, it fit the occasion (meeting up with some people post birthday movie at the Tara for a dinner, as the 'puking cocktails' birthday party had already happened for them the previous weekend). The staff was extremely gracious (or extremely bored), so they definitely gave the night a bit of birthday flavor, with extra garnish, cake, napkin throwing, and song. I had the lamb chops, which were a solid 'good.' Probably not something I'm going to crave to get from there again but definitely decent. The best is the hummus (well. . . chickpeas you crush into hummus) they bring out to you - super tasty. So there you go - my non-crazy Plaka experience!

Saw Dilated Peoples here recently.  The bouncers were characters, the drinks were $7 but strong, and the crowd was fun.  Strange physical plan with high ceilings and the stage high up and off to one corner, but decent sound.  Never seen so much smoke in a club in my entire life.  Convenient location near Market.  Don't come here if you have to take a drug test in the near future, you'll fail by association.

Oh this is sad, it sounds like a lot of people didn't have a good time at Supperclub, partly because of the size of the rateclub Party. I stopped in later that night and was actually blown away by the energy of the crowd, so am surprised to see some of these naysayers. I hope they at least do right by rateclub and go back under more normal circumstances and check out the place. My own thoughts on Supperclub: It's not for everyone, and they don't get everything right (dinner can be really long, and drawn out), but from the ten or so times I've visited, it's been a generally exhilarating experience. The bartenders are actually really pretty cool, and the waitstaff as well (their dining hostess is a bitch though, maybe that's part of the act?). I like the whole idea of drinks in the salon, followed by a sexy dinner and then debaucherous dancing afterwards. I have seen some very strange and kinky things go down here, and loved every moment of it! What more can you ask for under one roof? So please Supperclub haters, hopefully you'll be nice enough to go back and try them out again. And no, I don't work or even really know anyone there, I just think of rateclub as a positive vibe sort of place.
