The Edison is another of LA's treasures. It has the feel of an old speakeasy downstairs with its blocked off tunnels and what looks like old generators that make up the decor. The place is huge once you get downstairs. You can easily have a very nice private party or you can dance or you can just stand around, people watch, and stare at the bizzarre movies they play on the walls. The one and only problem I would say with this place is that the door guys are total dicks. My guy was wearing white, cloth shoes one night and they wouldn't let him in, and then once I got in, there were guys wearing jeans and sneakers. The door guys also like to make you wait for a really long time outside to give the appearance the place is happening. But once you get past the door guys, this place rocks.

Went here last Saturday night with about 8 friends for a birthday dinner. Let me start off by saying that the service was the most abominable thing I have ever experienced. This blonde waitress must have never waited a table before in her entire life. She came up and asked us "are you being helped yet?" This isn't the line for a bank teller, its a restaurant, we shouldn't have to tell you where your section is. She was so timid, maybe said 2 or 3 words the entire time we were there. She could barely take our order and messed up on a good portion of the items, and was fairly inattentive on top of everything. The busboys were even making faces at each other at how bad this girl was. Literally the worst waitress in history. Food was decent. Good guac I must say. After dinner we tried to go up for salsa dancing but were told we needed "a separate receipt for everyone at the table" in order to get in. Are you serious? We just spent $450 and you are giving us a hard time? We go outside to smoke a cigarette and the bouncer starts giving my friend a hard time about his shoes. Seriously? WE JUST SPENT $450 AND NOW WE CAN'T COME BACK IN BECAUSE OF MY FRIENDS SHOES??? Needless to say most of us left to go somewhere else. I would probably never come back here again. The staff is horrible and rude. This is one of those places you go to and wonder why they call it "the hospitality industry" because you get none here.

Okay, how cool is it that you enter the bar by going down a giant slide? AWESOME. I was actually shocked by how many wussies took the stairs. Um, HELLO? You have the option of taking a slide...why would you chose to walk down a stupid flight of stairs? Anyway, Slide is pretty damn cool. The interior is beautiful, the uniforms are retro-cool, and I loved the cute little flapper girls walking around. The drinks were pretty pricey though, and I think it's lame that you can't sit down anywhere (which is vital at some point when you've got 4 inch heels on) unless you reserve a table with bottle service. Oh, and the glowing champagne buckets are totally cheesy. All in all, I'd give it about 3 1/2 stars. I'll definitely be back to ride the slide though...woo hoo! **Update...just went back for a birthday party with bottle service. The staff was extremely attentive, and we had a fabulous time. Pricey, but I'm upgrading them to 4 stars.**
