Not looking to compete with the rowdiness of other bars on Polk, we stumbled upon this place for a late Christmas night cap. The bartender was dressed festively and was very friendly, and the place was spacious but not empty. Any place where people can have a few drinks without shouting to maintain a decent conversation is okay by me.

I made my first trip to Dante's this evening. I'm a huge fan of eclectic scenery and odd personalities and this place certainly had both. As you start into the restaurant there are tons of little oddities hanging around. Dante even has a few classic cars outside. Once inside you'll find a ship floating on your left and a wharf on your right. I sat up in the wharf tonight and was able to get a great view of the entire restaurant from my second floor table. Then lets move onto dinner. I ordered the beef fondue. This beef looked so fresh and tender I was teasing my husband I could eat it raw. The staff was laid back and talkative, not to the point it was detracting from the meal but enough to keep it all interesting. Dante himself even made an appearance. He was making the rounds and greeting his guests. Overall I can't complain about the first this about this place. I'll be back.

Very Asian and often times, mostly Korean. At least on Friday nights. Cover is standard here $10 - $20, depending on if your name's on guestlist or not. I went with a mixed group of guys and girls, and they pulled us out of line and into the club each time. I'm not overly glamorous, so I think the bouncers mistook me for someone else. Music is hip-hop. The crowd's pretty young at Hiro compared to other NYC joints. There's an upstairs with a bar and tables and lounge chairs. Downstairs has 2 larger bars with more lounge chairs and tables and a TINY-ass dancefloor and a stage. A lot of out-of-staters come here, including myself, because we want Asian night and then regret it. Decorations were a little confusing. It's like a wooden warehouse or old Kabuki theater with nice seats and tables. Weird. I don't think I'd like to come here again, but it wouldn't be hell if I had to in order to see friends from NY who like this spot.
