I made my first trip to Dante's this evening. I'm a huge fan of eclectic scenery and odd personalities and this place certainly had both. As you start into the restaurant there are tons of little oddities hanging around. Dante even has a few classic cars outside. Once inside you'll find a ship floating on your left and a wharf on your right. I sat up in the wharf tonight and was able to get a great view of the entire restaurant from my second floor table. Then lets move onto dinner. I ordered the beef fondue. This beef looked so fresh and tender I was teasing my husband I could eat it raw. The staff was laid back and talkative, not to the point it was detracting from the meal but enough to keep it all interesting. Dante himself even made an appearance. He was making the rounds and greeting his guests. Overall I can't complain about the first this about this place. I'll be back.

The Frying pan is one of my favorite outdoor places in the city. It is a true mix of NYers during the day. The night time is driven on what types they are throwing, if there is a DJ there it tends to be a crowd in their 20's. The rest of the time I would say the crowd ranges from early 20's to late 30's. The drinks will change prices depending on how crowded it is and if there are events there. I would recommend getting the White Wine Sangria it packs a decent punch. The food is great here, I love the burgers and the mussels are great as well. I would treat this as a really great casual place to bring a date where you can get quiet space and can be romantic. It is a great pick up place with loads of singles who seem very approachable, this could be the fact that it is an outdoor setting or the fact that I think I am doing better then the reality because I seem to drink more at this bar. I also find this very kid friendly during the day and early evening, they can walk around exploring the Frying Pan boat A couple of notes, I always call up before to see if there are special events. It can be a problem being a guy getting into this place if you have no girls with you and there is a big event. This place closes early (2am?). When that happens I just head over to the Half King to extend the night.

The time that I have been to Vertigo, I had a great time. It may have been because I was with two friends celebrating their birthdays, but that's even more a reason that this bar is fun. So I checked out the bar's reviews on City Search (because Rateclub didn't really exist to me three years ago). The party of four, two homosexual men and two heterosexual women paraded into the bar and immediately hit it off with the bartender. Maybe it was because he was very attractive, maybe it was because he was in the adult films industry, or maybe it was because he was gay. Anyway, he suggested fun fruity and tropical drinks to go with the theme of the bar. After a couple of house specials, he agreed to take photos with us and then we hit up the DJ for requests. The dance floor was so amazing- framed mirrors on the walls, dark with fun lights, and we got there early, so we beat the crowd. So we go back to the bar and have a few more specials and then its time to leave. As we gather our twenty-dollar bills, the bartender surprises us with the total. He looks at the empty glasses and looks at us and totally charges us MUCH less than he should have for about 5 drinks for four people. So of course, we left him a hefty tip. Overall, I had a great time at Vertigo. I recommend it and will be going back in the near future. Great place to begin the party, or even kepp the party going.
