We are picky about the places we go to and we believe in reading reviews before we go. This stop came about because I had to go to the VA and we were hungry and needed to shop at Sam's. Being in a Sam's parking lot is the only detractor I had. It was Friday around 2pm and the look is of a bar, so Tavern fits it right nicely. I love Greek food. My wife is German and my first taste of Greek food, not that vendor stuff out of a truck, was in Germany. I was hooked. This place bought instant memories of Greek bars we have visited before and the smell and music did so as well. She had mussels in some sauce with feta cheese. I am not a fan of sea food so I didn't try it, but she loved it. I had a gyro with fries. Slightly disappointed they didn't have Greek style drinks but then they price would be higher. This is the best gyro and fries I have had outside of Germany. I've never been to Greece so I can't compare with real in country food. The owner/cook is Greek and in that Greek way, came out to socialize with some of the guests. But, only his regulars and they spoke Greek so I'm sure that was the reason. We will be back. I've been to a few Greek places in Atlanta and they all have their specialties and I like Gyros and so this will be my gyro place.

Went to the big opening night of Garden of Eden's successor, MyHouse. This week there were like 4 "Opening Nights" of the venue, but I think last night's was the grand finale, because it was INSANE. First of all, there are no remnants of Garden of Eden at all - this place got a total face lift. Dodd Mitchell did an absolutely outstanding job redesigning the site inside and out. And this is not your typical nightclub, because it feels like you're actually partying in a sleek, modern, million dollar home. Now, on to the opening night: After receiving numerous texts from friends to arrive early because "it will hit capacity", my friend and I shrugged it off for some reason and thought it was fine to arrive at our standard arrival time: 11:45. So not a good idea. We get there and there are literally about 100 people outside screaming the promoters' names, trying every hustle to squeeze their way to the front of the entrance. The security and doormen were not having it. Luckily, my friend and I are small and wiggled our way to the front. My friend who promotes the night grabbed us and led us through the shiny entrance door. We walk in and are instantly shocked at what we see. It was totally Vegas in there - packed with beautiful people, awesome music (DJ AM on the decks) and complete rowdiness. I don't know if any other club in Hollywood was getting love last night, because the best crowd (cool, fun, non-douchey) really was at MyHouse. There are plenty of tables, including a BED on the second level. A big, comfy, what looked like a queen-size bed, with a bottles/carafes tray placed at the foot. So at MyHouse you can order table service OR bed service! I love it. The bartenders were really friendly and not your typical I'm-too-cool-to-serve-you-even-if-it-is-in-my-job- description bartenders...I really liked that. The drinks were strong and the prices were reasonable too. DJ AM kept the party alive all night long - we didn't even look at the time once, which always happens at every other nightclub. You know - get your drink, do a few rounds, dance alittle until the DJ starts playing Journey and you're like WTF, look at the time, go to the smoking patio even if you don't smoke but it's something to do, do a few more rounds, look at the time, and round up everyone to go home. Nope, not here. Of course this could be the Opening Night effect, but I'll take it. The biggest plus of all is it's only one block from my actual house. MyHouse is my new favorite neighbor. I'll definitely be back!

Eating here was a study in excess. And I love excess. Nearly every restaurant in Atlanta gives you biscuits or cornbread when you arrive. South City Kitchen gives you both. After devouring that, we moved on to pimiento cheese; if you don't know what that is...suffice to say, it's a spread that can improve ANYTHING. The soup of the day was potato bacon. I don't think there's any chance that I will ever NOT order potato bacon soup. And it was everything I thought it would be. Now, here is where the excess kicks in. After eating a piece of cornbread, a biscuit, a bowl of potato bacon soup and entirely too much pimiento cheese, I was full. However, I had already ordered a juicy, wonderful burger smothered in smoked mozzarella, red onions and BBQ mayonnaise, accompanied by fresh cut fries with BBQ seasoning.* And I could never let something so delectable go to waste. And what, was I not going to taste my friend's amazing fried chicken with out-of-control-tasty mashed potatoes and fresh, crisp green beans? And how could I turn down the offer of some goat cheese fried green tomatoes? I could go on, but my gut is expanding just thinking about it. Basically, I ate this meal over a week ago, and I'm still full. And every time I think about it, I smile. *Just like on BBQ chips. Why don't more places do that?
