by Cynthia N. on I've been here a few times, most recently Saturday night. I did not order food on my most recent visit, but on prior occasions I did, and the wait for food was long - resulting in a couple of lukewarm meals. I think this is a reflection on the servers who spend more time shaking their buns to the music rather than actually waiting on tables. They have those machines with several types of fruity, slushy drinks. I tried a few of them (I'm sorry, can't remember which ones, but they will give you a sample of each flavor), but the drinks taste like you'd expect - sweet frozen fruit concoction with cheap liquor. I do better when I stick to liquors I know. With that in mind, the bartenders were pretty good, but also hard to catch as the bar seemed to stay busy. Each time I've gone, the DJ's have always been good. But LOUD. Hard to talk to the person next to you LOUD. There's plenty of free parking (because this restaurant is located in a shopping center), and I love free parking. My only gripe about this place is that it's a restaurant that also wants to be a club. That mix doesn't usually work, and it doesn't work here either. If I had to pick, I'd change this place to a club - mainly because the food is mediocre and the regular client base seems to treat it as such. This isn't my normal hanging spot, but it's great for people watching. I mean really, how often do you see 40-yr-old women in booty shorts dancing like strippers??? And three bags of weave on someone who's about 5'1"??? It was almost as good as people watching at the airport!
by Anh H. on So as tourists, we had no idea what to expect from Miami nightlife and how partying "works". On our first night in South Beach, we thought the "VIP passes" our hotel gave us would help us out but nope! They don't mean anything here. Fortunately, a bouncer just let us pass the line and go right in. BUT!!! Everyone, or almost everyone, always pays $20. No Vegas-style "if you're a girl, you don't have to wait or pay" here. And apparently, nobody goes out until 1am and they party until 5am! We got there at midnight and it was pretty dead. HUGE club, nothing super glamorous -- just people getting down & dirty! Girls dancing on poles (and those girls can SHAKE IT), girls selling various cigars & Kit Kat Bars. Expensive drinks!!! About $15 a drink and they add 17% gratuity. Warning for guys: If you're not a big baller, watch out for girls who will talk to you just for a drink hahaha. All in all, it was a great first night partying in Miami ;)
by Asa Peskind on If you know Tom Catherall's restaurants, you know what to expect. Hip. Trendy. Social. Don't go for authenticity, please. That said, I think Aja hits it better than H2S's other chic spots. Lunch was very good - service and food. I can imagine that the place is rather a zoo in the evening with the huge bar area. The decor is a little over the top, but that's how Tom does. There is no question of the theme for his places. I've heard that this place brought him back to the kitchen, and to the roots of culinary specialty - Asian (all types). Then again, I heard the same thing about Home. Bottom line, I like it, including the price. Lunch for 2 - app, soup and entree - was only $25. You can keep the bar scene.
