by Kara S. on The morning after my visit, well at about 1 pm to be honest, when I woke up after a fitfull night of drunken rest, my text to my friend read: "Please kill me now. And can you bring me some breakfast?" I should review this place higher. It's GORGEOUS. Just stunning. Of course it's twenties, but It's got this like atlantian-meets-art-nouveau-vibe that I totally dig. I arrived at about 12:15 on a Friday night. No line. Easy parking. I ordered an absinthe cocktail... it tasted like black licorice and was disgusting, but hey, I'm the idiot who ordered absinthe. Bar tenders were very nice though, and probably the only good looking guys in the place. No wait... I'm lying, I think I recall one other cute guy sitting in a back corner. One of the bouncers ran straight into me and spilled my drink down my dress. I was offered a napkin. A napkin for half a cocktail. Not so nice. Lots of cute nooks and wide comfy sofas to to sit on. I enjoyed that. The sink/soap situation is very cute. I would come back just to rotate that dispenser once again. If I'm not mistaken, they provide you with Dr. Bronners mint hand soap. Lovely. But ya know... I just didn't dig this place. Something about it, I just didn't appreciate it. I give it two stars, not out of anger or malice, but because the description for two-stars is "Meh. I've experienced better." ... and I have.
by Jennifer B. on Unfortunately my first (and only) trip to dbar was a disappointing experience. I had heard fantastic things about the food and was eager to experience what the buzz was about. But from the moment my boyfriend and I walked in the door we were ignored. The hostess told me it would be a "tiny wait" and that we could grab a drink at the bar and she would come and grab me. Fast forward 45 mins. We're still standing at the bar and four two-tops have been sat before us. When I inquire with the hostess she shrugs and says, uh oh. Yes. We purchased a drink, waited patiently, all unfortunately to hear "uh oh." After waiting another 15 mins we decided it wasn't meant to be. Extremely disappointing to be treated so badly before even getting a table. Seems to be consistent with fellow rateclubsers who say their food outshines their service.
by Albina Strozzi on Break dancers showing off their moves on the ground, DJ's spinning Brazilian beats and a crowd there for the spirit of having a good time and not just to be seen - I felt like I was back in San Francisco Friday night for the monthly ALMA (all for the love of Music and Art) party here. While the cavernous space could have been way more crowded, maybe people were saving up to see Mark Farina here the next night. You know dancing is important when they have someone mopping up spilled drinks all night so the people on the floor don't get sticky or wet : ) Email DJtrue@almanyc.comwhen you want reduced admission for January's party.
