Who knew?  The best tacos are not in the Mission and are not made by Mexicans!  Maybe Nick's is pandering to the American palate that likes greasy crispy fried texture and gooey cheese product, but with over 1300 rateclubs reviews it can't be wrong.  More pricey than a taco truck or Mission dive, after taxes the tacos will run you between $4.60 and $5.70 (since you shouldn't even think about getting it any way but Nick's Way)!  I went just after the lunch rush and the lines still moved slowly, I can't begin to imagine the hot mess this place will be with all the el cheapo patrons on Taco Tuesdays! Nachos: It always annoys me that I cannot get nacho cheese at any of those taquerias in the Mission.  Screw queso blanco and oaxaca cheese, I want the orange kind that oozes.  No clue what their recipe is, but probably doesn't include the lesser varieties like Velveeta and Cheez Whiz.  The nacho chips themselves were good too - hardy. Nick's Way Taco: Two medium sized soft corn tortilla shells (from a bag, not freshly gridled from fresh masa).  The inner most shell is semi-deep fried to give a strong structure and amazing crunch.  It also makes the tortilla shell tastier because they're infused with grease.  The regular soft outer tortilla shell adds a texture contrast, almost like the Double Decker at Taco Bell.  They also add on some guacamole and jack cheese.  Wish there was a lower price point option for just the crispy upgrade since the cheese and guac addition don't add much taste. Guacamole: I've been spoiled by the authentic Mexican restaurants that have authentic Mexicans scooping authentic Mexican avocados at your table side for an authentic Mexican freshly hand hacked guacamole.  It was good here, just probably made earlier in the morning and machine processed so missing that finer detail. Carne Asada: Cubes of grilled seared goodness with no soggy pieces.  The pinto beans were a bit overkill because who needs beans when you have that much meat? Pollo: My favorite of the two chickens.  Mostly white meat, but tender since it was slow simmered.  Loads of flavor.  Once again, the pinto beans were kind of unnecessary. Pollo Asado: Bland, dry and tough.  Horrible way to mess up free range poultry. Carnitas: iNo es auténtico!  Soft pulled pork without any of the crispiness we love from true carnitas.  Also seemed to be lacking on the spices.  The pinto beans seemed like flavorless filler in this one. Pescado: Fried tortilla shell, fried fish and lime mayonnaise... sounds like a perfect American innovation on Mexican food.  The breading is full of spices and is extra crunchy, way better than those boring fish & chips style filets other taco joints use.  The cabbage and cilantro were good choices too, helping balance out the fried factor. Grilled Fish: Nowhere near as good as the pescado.  Bland and a tad fishy tasting. Camarones: Could this be?  My first meaty shrimp taco that doesn't taste rubbery or overcooked?  Totally awesome.  The shrimp looks almost unreal in the shape of cool shrimp discs. Vegetariano: Bad idea.  Other tacos already have pinto beans in them (carne asada, carintas and pollo) so there was nothing new in this one.  At the same price of four other meat tacos, why bother? Melon Agua Fresca: A disappointment.  The melon seemed puréed so each sip yielded a bunch of grainy slush.  Would have been better if in the form of  larger muddled chunks to add flavor to the sugar water without bordering a smoothie texture.

OK so I'm six months pregnant and I was craving Mexican food totally not what I was expecting ... We walk in with my family and 3 year old daughter I felt like I was at a club the music was extremely loud even the waiter couldn't hear us ... I asked for the chicken mole enchilada but with the sauce on the side they messed up my order when I had them re make it again they messed up and made it with corn tortilla when I asked for flour from the get go I had to wait 40 mins for a new meal which was wrong again... my Hubby and friend had asked fir extra sour cream and never got it but got charged $2 for it and I had ordered a side of guacamole asked for full size thinking it would be about a cup I swear it was barley even 1/2 cup and they charged us $7 for that OMG .... Oh and the valet parking what the hell is all that about!!! I think I could park my own car thanks!!! Overall I will NOT be going back there again!!!!

2.5 Stars for Tenjune. If you're dropping over a grand on a table, please do not eye me up and down Mr. Doorman.  The bouncers here are EXTREMELY rude, even to people who are going to shell out a ton of cash to get a table.  The inside is really small and the dance floor is almost non-existent as the tables surrounding eat it up. I've been to bigger spaces with better music and kinder staff, and still had a wonderful time without feeling abused by the doorman.  The hype is over.  Pass on Tenjune and head somewhere that guarantees a good time and friendly service.
