$8 beers. In Queens. End of story. (also, the service away from the bar is not great. it's a big place and can get crowded, so you're better off just going to the bar.)

Great music, but way too crowded. I went on a Friday night and by around midnight it was so crowded I could barely walk in, let alone dance. It took about half an hour to get an expensive drink ($13 each) that had more juice and ice than anything else. You may want to stick to well drinks which are probably cheaper, but any specialty drinks on the board are pricy. There is only a $5 cover charger, but I would not go back unless there is more room to breathe.

What are the most important things you want out of a bar? For me, it's great music, good crowd, and cheap (but strong) drinks. If those are the things you look for in a bar, then you won't be disappointed with Bruno's in the Mission -- just as long as you're willing to pay the $5 ($10 on Saturday nights) door fee. I've been to Bruno's three times and all three times, they played very good music: a nice mix of old-school and new-school hip hop, blended in with some popular older hits (Prince, Rick James). The juxtaposition of "Brickhouse" by Rick James with "Walk It Out" by DJ Unk was weird, but strangely satisfying. The drinks are decently-priced: $8 for a very strong Makers Ginger Ale or Jack & Coke. The bartenders are surprisingly patient given the huge number of drunk people screaming for their attention. The space is pretty big, but with the always-packed crowd, it seems like you can barely breathe. Therein lies the one thing that I don't like about Bruno's: the crowdedness. It's tough, though, to really blame them for how popular it is. The crowd is a good mix of party animals, drunk frat people, and easily-irritable douchebags. As long as you don't mind random drunk people unapologetically bumping into you and spilling drinks on you, it's nothing a few shots of Patron can't make you forget about. Plus, when the bar closes, you walk out to smell the tantalizing aroma of the small cart outside selling delicious dirty dogs. For me, Bruno's is always a good time in the Mission.
