I really can't write a proper review of this restaurant because I have yet to experience their cuisine.  I didn't exactly have high expectations for the San Francisco Saloon based on its "charming" exterior and interior but it managed to fail to live up to even my severely low set bar. I had never been to the Saloon but was excited to go.  A work group arrived at 1pm on a busy day.  We grabbed a table as soon as it opened up and after about 5 minutes the waitress took our food and drink order.  We got our drinks and proceeded to wait another 40 minutes without being acknowledged. Drinks empty, parched, hungry, we elected a representative to inquire as to the whereabouts of our lunch, and the possibility of getting some water.  We were told that the restaurant was busy, but she would check on our food.  10 minutes later it was obvious the food had not been checked for and we asked again and were told it would be another 5 minutes for our food.  At this point, 50 minutes after ordering lunch, really the briefest of meal-times, we asked to speak to the manager.  5 minutes later the manager approaches us and we point out that many tables who were seated after us seem to have their lunches.  Again, the obvious was stated, that it was busy, and that they have a small kitchen and that the food was coming out in order and that everyone has waited 45 minutes for their food.  In my opinion, when you go to a restaurant that has a full menu, open at the lunch hour you should be permitted to have the expectation of food and drink, regardless of the size of the kitchen, in under 45 minutes.  Then he said we could get our food in 10 minutes.  Wait, it was 5 minutes ago the waitress said it would be only 5 more minutes.  Either this restaurant exists in a space-time warp where kitchens actually cook in reverse, or someone has no idea what is going on in the kitchen and has probably not put in our order. The place was about 1/2 full at this point and we asked why we couldn't even get another order of drinks or water.  We were told that the waitress was now scared to come over to us because we cussed her out.  When we said we didn't "cus out" the waitress the manager then cordially agreed with us by saying "Yeah, sure you didn't cuss her out, sure you didn't."  This guy didn't realize that I had taken lessons in sarcasm and it was at this point I feared that the entire staff may have now turned against us for the mere expectation of acquiring food and drink in a dining establishment.  There was now a serious question about whether we could chance eating here, if our food ever arrived, so we told the manager we were going to leave.  In his effervescently charming manner he concurred "I think that's best." Truth be told they let us leave without paying for the drinks.

Best place to meet-up with friends -- kinda far up there on the Upper-West side, but I like that 'hood, so I was pleased. Yummy beer, beautiful back-room loungie-library-artsy-spot that made me feel like i should have been a wearing silk smoking jacket. Bartender was awesome, and introduced me to Raphael Saadiq. I'd go back if I was in that area, for sure.

This place is definitely in the boonies...WAY out there.. I wouldn't want to go back here unless there's a ridiculously good reason for me to go.. or someone drives me here guarantee-ing a good time.  It's pretty ghetto.. I think the area is actually more ghetto than Whisper.. We had a hard time getting in even though guestlist time didn't even end yet with the bouncers. But our friend kept insisting and finally got our way.. The space is definitely big and spacious.. 2 floors/balcony area.. big stage for performances that I see in past event pictures at this venue.. Event was hosted by Synergy or something.. So it was mostly asians that night with hip hop night.. I wasn't feeling it that night and I wasn't feeling that good that night... so in general.. not a great experience here.. Sorry COCOMO... you weren't coco-ing me at all that night..
