by Matt T. on Oh my lord. So, I was on my own for dinner, but when I heard about a pirate-themed, fondue restaurant with an entire pirate ship inside, I couldn't resist. And this place does look like Pirates of the Caribbean, complete with a ship, a lagoon, salty-looking servers (who are not animatronic), and a host of wooden buildings. But Dante's has even more. They have a live band, which you can watch for only $7 more from the deck of the pirate ship, they (used to?) have alligators, and they have FONDUE! So despite the awkwardness of dining on fondue in a pirate ship by my lonesome, I went all in. I was tempted to start with the cheese fondue, but I made do with the special fondue mix of pork, beef, and chicken with a variety of sauces. As one of the waiters told me soon thereafter, I "appeared to be making very good progress on my meal because I did not have anyone to talk to." Not true. I talked to him just then, didn't I? And the friendly manager came by my table and spoke to me for at least 20 seconds before he moved to the next table. And I spoke to the busboy for a good 5 to 10 seconds. So there, I spoke to three people in the last twenty minutes, thank you very much. But I did have a fair amount of time to absorb my surroundings from a great table perched near the top of the restaurant while the fondue oil heated up, and I can say the decor at Dante's is amazing. And the food, well I ate like I had been stuck on a desert island eating seagulls for a few weeks. I loved the experience and the food.
by Jestine Bonventre on BEST sidecar i've ever had. I had heard something of a rival at the Alembic (on Haight), which proved utterly false. Martunis has the ambiance, the atmosphere, and the proper prices for the pour. It's become a regular date night stop.
by Elizabeth J. on Does this really count as boating? Doesn't that imply movement from shore? Oh well! All I know is that Turn Tables on the Hudson is an eclectic crowd (yuppies-potheads) and free before 11! Great place to catch a breeze, a drink, and a little nosh as they have a section with grills running all night. Impress a girl with your musical adventures into world acid jazz . Just get a beer or something simple because the bartenders are brisk and light with the hooch! Update: They're closed :( RIP
