Came for a friend's birthday.  I have to say he "knows" many of the people there so we were really taken care of.  I think we had 10 or 11 courses - I LOVE eating this way. Highlights:  Love the warm pita and cucumber dip at the beginning.  Great way to engage your palate.  The crispy rice cake with salmon mouse was fantastic, the crispy black cod was divine, the burger and fries (Sooo cute and mini) were perfect as well as the meat with polenta. I had read such mixed reviews about the Jidori chicken, I must say it was flavorful but we had a debate on whether it was chicken or fish.  The texture was odd but the flavor was great. I'm a big fan of Michael Mina - for a few reasons, I love tasting menus and all of his restaurants have vegetarian options (for the husband). Very chic crowd, great ambiance, yes, it's expensive but a must try.

Went to One Midtown Kitchen for "date night". The decor and ambiance is impressive and the scene is diverse. A really nice setting. We were given a corner table with fantastic view of the "garden". Great place and great setting, so a good basis for a food experience. We had calamari for starters. Their calamari is quite spicy, so be prepared. Ours was unfortunately not really heated, so a mixed experience. We order a Russian Valley, Syrah wine from their list. Realized that they did not have the wine on the list. Ended up with a Frank Family Cabernet Savignon. An excellent wine. We ordered the Braised Veal and the Leg of Lamb. The braised veal was quite juicy and a pretty good experience. The Lamb was *VERY* chewy. It could not be cut by with steak knife. The polenta that came with the lamb was very good, but the meat was useless. The waiter excused and promised that the desserts would be on the house. We had vanilla cream and the lemon/blueberry tart. The Vanilla cream was very tasty almost like a creme brule without the sugar crust. The tart has clearly been heated more than once, so not the best experience. Our waiter was very attentive and had great knowledge of the food and the wine, so a very good experience. When we received the check they had forgotten that they were supposed to pick up the tab for the dessert. We mentioned this and they excused. They re-did the bill and subtracted one of the deserts. Conclusion - they cannot compute at One Midtown Kitchen. In summary: a fantastic ambiance, a great / attentive staff (that cannot do basic billing) and a chef with a mixed sense of quality. So five stars for ambiance and service and 1-2 stars for the food. The good food is really good but the experience could be mixed, so choose with care.

I love this place for its absurdity. You walk in and smell the sugar-shacking undertones. In corner #1 we have group of eligible men in shirts, pants and honey-glazed shoes. Easy boys... smack the room with your eloquent disinterest. Stick a hand in a pocket, now the other - readjust without implying a rapperesque crotch grab. That's it, they'll love us now. To the center of the room our glances shift... man, man, man, man, man, lady that may have once been a man, man, and two girls that have said men clutching at a mental phrase book for bragging rights and a bedtime snuggle. Drat. So that's my take on Minna; inequality and expensive drinks. We do fancy it though. p.s. Incidentally, speaking of "man, man, man," did anyone else notice that the vast majority of Minna write-ups are by boys?
