So now that I'm back in the Atl, I felt it was time to get back into the groove with the foodage. A buddy drug me along to eat at Flip, and I have to confess I was skeptical. In an effort with full disclosure, this had more to do with a rather unfortunate interaction with a direlect in this area when changing a flat tire. SOMETHING SOUTHERN THIS WAY COMES... As soon as I walked in, i was impressed with the decor of the place. It stood out. I have to admit here, I went in wanting to dislike the place, mostly because I was probably just in a cranky mood that day to begin with. Granted, it felt a bit out of place with the local atmosphere, but I liked the clean lines and the Jetson's like futuristic edge to the place. The service was excellent and very helpful--even keeping in mind my tendency to be somewhat sarcastic when reading the unique menu. Also keep in mind I had to get get over the fact I was going to a boutique for burgers. Yes, my southern redneck side of the family tree does still exist, despite my current zipcode. Thanks to my buddy's warning, I ignored the prices and decided to go with my gut. I couldn't resist the southern burger. It has all of the religious aspects of southern cuisine that I needed to balance out the metrosexual heresy of the modern menu, decor, and ambiance--country FRIED beef, pimento cheese spread, pickles, green tomato ketchup, and a side of zuchini parmesan fries. I finished this off with a Turtle milkshake. All I can say is WOW. It was fantastic and I eat lots of burgers. Yeehaw! I felt like i had a gastric eiphany. It was still a burger, but it was a burger with wow. The bun was unique, the plating was appealing to the eyes, the combination of textures was fantastic. Something unique and delicious that you couldn't get anywhere else for the same effect. Looking back, Flip is probably one of the best things that neighborhood has going on! While I'd prefer they be located a bit closer to me for selfish reasons, I will definitely go out of my way to eat there. Great service, phenomenal food you can't get elsewhere. I'm craving that burger right now. Ugh . Thank God yesterday was payday.

You can't beat when you first move to the city and it's the summer and you're outside having a drink with friends and you look up and you see some of Midtown's finest buildings up close. But I used to work near Front Page and have eaten there no less than 15 times, and I don't think I've ever had food I truly enjoyed there. I LOVE their outside area though and that beautiful fountain in the center of the brick patio.

I love the bands they get to play here. I especially love the red drapes and tables and the whole retro vibe without being corny. I love it even more because it's in North Beach, yet is far enough down Columbus that you can walk around and enjoy yourself without having to run into drunk frat boys.
