by Caitlin S. on Being fans of Spike Mendelsohn's Good Stuff Eatery, we wanted to compare one Top Chef burger place to another. There is no denying the insanity that revolves around a trip to Good Stuff. From the line to the last minute milkshake decision to the sampling of each mayonnaise, it's a hectic process. Flip Burger, on the other hand, is a more relaxing and traditional sit-down restaurant. Complete with bar and ample seating, the interior was fun and modern. As for the food, excellent! I was blown away by my meal and left desperately wishing Flip Burger would make its way up to D.C. The Southern burger came complete with country fried beef, pimento cheese, b&b pickles, green tomatoes and ketchup. The rBQ is barbeque brisket at its finest. Pulled brisket, flip slaw, rBQ sauce and smoked mayo--this burger made me question my loyalty to Kansas City barbeque. The Zucchini Fries with Gremolata mayonnaise were delicious. Simple and satisfying! I am a dessert fanatic, so it was impossible for me to pass up the opportunity to taste one of the many milkshakes on the menu. We shared the Nutella + Burnt Marshmallow milkshake. Although I love burnt marshmallows, I didn't love them on top of this shake. They became cold and chewy after a few minutes and I ended up eating them separately. The milkshake itself was great but nothing can beat Spike's Toasted Marshmallow.
by Antione Rhinebolt on Bad: Despite reservation a month in advance, the wait was still over an hour. This was for a 9:30 reservation on a Tuesday. Very bad: noise level at the bar easily exceeded that of two subway cars hitting the station simultaneously, but lower in pitch. It literally made my ears hurt. Good: The place is very pretty, but it is more of a night-spot than a restaurant. Good to see and be seen, not good if you want to enjoy a meal. Don't miss the giant Buddha. We left before being seated, sadly, so I can't comment on the quality of the food or the table service.
by Tessa M. on (This is just a review of the roof deck bar. I imagine that the restaurant or one of the many lounges are much better.) I'll give them two starts for the cool building and the gorgeous view from the roof deck. Heaters make the deck bearable for an evening cocktail, if-and-only-if there is not a single gust of wind (and how often is it windy in the Mission?). But they get no more stars from me. I'm not sure if I spent more time wandering about trying to find my friends or more time waiting among the swarm at the bar for a $6 well drink served in a flimsy plastic cup. But I definitely spent the *least* time relaxing and enjoying the "burrrrr!" roof deck. The staff was a little cranky but I don't blame them what with the huge impatient crowd, tiny bar, and chilly atmosphere.
