Oh my lord. So, I was on my own for dinner, but when I heard about a pirate-themed, fondue restaurant with an entire pirate ship inside, I couldn't resist. And this place does look like Pirates of the Caribbean, complete with a ship, a lagoon, salty-looking servers (who are not animatronic), and a host of wooden buildings. But Dante's has even more. They have a live band, which you can watch for only $7 more from the deck of the pirate ship, they (used to?) have alligators, and they have FONDUE! So despite the awkwardness of dining on fondue in a pirate ship by my lonesome, I went all in. I was tempted to start with the cheese fondue, but I made do with the special fondue mix of pork, beef, and chicken with a variety of sauces. As one of the waiters told me soon thereafter, I "appeared to be making very good progress on my meal because I did not have anyone to talk to." Not true. I talked to him just then, didn't I? And the friendly manager came by my table and spoke to me for at least 20 seconds before he moved to the next table. And I spoke to the busboy for a good 5 to 10 seconds. So there, I spoke to three people in the last twenty minutes, thank you very much. But I did have a fair amount of time to absorb my surroundings from a great table perched near the top of the restaurant while the fondue oil heated up, and I can say the decor at Dante's is amazing. And the food, well I ate like I had been stuck on a desert island eating seagulls for a few weeks. I loved the experience and the food.

222 is one of the most fun places in the city to visit on any given night. As soon as you walk in, the super laid-back bartenders are ready to mix any drink your heart desires or make you one of their luscious thin crust pizzas. Downstairs in the basement, DJs spin consistently good dance music while everyone around you gets down. Friday's now-famous Lights Down Low party features super sweet electro-pop and alterna-dance. Get there early or be prepared to fend off hipsters with egos so big you nearly trip over them while trying to cross the dance floor. Tuesday nights are even better: deep, funky house without the crowds or the cover charge. I know it's only March, but 222 is on its way to becoming my bar of the year.

Let me start with the things I like about CDN. First, I like that it's underground. It's long and kind of narrow, feels like a cave. I dig that. I like how small it is, my guess is capacity is a couple hundred. I like some of the shows they get. The Veils tonight were particularly good. Now the things I don't like. The sound is horrendous. I couldn't understand a word Finn Andrews was singing or saying, and it wasn't because of his kiwi accent. Finally the part that frustrates me the most, is this place has the most amount of chatter of any venue I've been in. It's horrible, always. If you aren't within about the first five rows of the stage, the amount of talking you can hear from the back is overwhelming. It's not cocktail hour people. I'll keep going there, cause I still kinda like the venue. But that sound system and chatter really detracts.
