You know when you look back in your life and you say, "remember that amazing time, remember that amazing place ... Remember that amazing meal!" Insert all of the above. First night of LA restaurant week and we confirmed a 10pm reservation at XIV. We showed up around 9pm to scope it out, and despite it's outward apperance and location of West Hollywood, it was rather secluded and comfortable inside. The fireplaces burned warm, the hostess were beautiful and friendly, and the kitchen seen through glass walls was bussling. An hour the hostess suggested drinks on the terrance as it was happy hour until 10pm. We couldn't argue that so to the Terrance be it. A mini candle lit garden, with a bar set in the back. We ordered the usual introductory cocktail. Dirty martini, gin and tonic. Our bill was 30$ for two drinks, not happy hour prices but we didn't make a fuss and grabbed a seat and got to sipping. Around 9:40 we checked in with the hostess and causally not wanting to make a stink mentioned our drink prices were not happy hour prices. Next thing the manager Nick was at our side shaking our hands and buying us drinks at the front bar. Round two.. Pims cup, and a Grambal. These two drinks alone are reason enough to come back. Mid way through another manager came over and chatted us up and seated us at our table and onto dinner we started. Being it was dine LA we went with the preset menu with the wine pairing. A light plate of fresh naan and some twist on hummous made to order started the meal. Light citrusy, and a great way to get your tastebuds going. My boyfriend also ordered two oysters w/ horshradish foam. I don't eat them but they looked heavenly. Our first plate was ahi tuna tar tar with a raw quail egg broken on top and sesame oil drizzled with pepper. AWESOME and paired with a light and rather dry champagne. Second plate, the bbq ribs with creamy mash potatoes that seemed airated. My boyfriend got the king crab rissotto that each bite tasted like a cloud of creamy craby goodness. His paird w/ a white chenan blanc and mine a rich and robust cab. Dessert was donuts with banana ice cream and his a rootbeer float. Pretty spectacular on both parts and paired with a maple-y dessert wine. The service, pristine. The timing, on cue. We continually had managers stopping by and not over intruding our dining experience but showering us with attention. Our waitress was fun, friendly and beautiful. She seemed like she really loved what she did, and was exceptionally knowledgeable about her menu. Not the "i'm an actress on the side type" but a genuinely normal and fun person. Stuffed and feeling rather spoiled our night ended and we thanked everyone for a truely remarkable evneing. The manager still not finished took our valet ticket and pulled our car up first despite a party of 10 people waiting in the cold for their car. Enjoy!

i went to the cool kids show here last sunday and it was a pretty decent venue for a show. we were up near the front so i dont know how it was watching from the back.. probably sucked but i dont know. i gave it 4 stars because we didnt drink there, seemed a bit pricey. but they also had some tables to sit and eat at during the show, i know you had to spend $20 a person at least to be seated there. i guess if you want to be smug then you can, but i dont know if id want to sit and eat while watching a show, so we didnt do that either. buuut overall id definitely come back if a band i liked was playing again here, no complaints, pretty sick venue.
