one of the better dance venues in San Francisco. FUCK YEA, i said it. DNA does it well for every one and every kind of crowd. I would say, you have to check out the events that are lined up before you head out here. I went on Death Guild night, not knowing that it's "goth nite". Getting in was cheap, but honestly i felt out of place--not til the FREE TEA SERVICE came into the picture. Oh yes, DJ set is great for the most part. Other than that, i hear BOOTIE is the business at DNA. What's unique with DNA is that they have a coat check AND a little cafe. Very random to have a cafe at some dance venue.

I used to go to Silk City to eat back in the day (the old Silk City). I was always a big fan of their huevos rancheros and the sweet potato fries. I was bummed when it closed down. For whatever reason, since it reopened, I haven't eaten there once. But I have been there many times to hang out on the bar/club side. It's somehow become my go-to place, along with Johnny Brenda's, so that even without any plans, we can always go there and be guaranteed an entertaining time. They have djs pretty much every night, and I'm a fan of saturday nights. It's always hot, crowded, hoppin, friendly, yet fun. It's always a nice and mixed crowd. I've had some fun on friday nights, but it can be random. They seem to mix it up on Friday nights, and sometimes it's more fun than others, but still amusing as hell. They have good drinks here, and they're reasonably priced. I've found the bartenders to be nice and friendly. One plus, they have plenty of bathrooms on the dancefloor and in the diner side. Plus, the real bonus is that there's never a cover, gotta love that!

I have tried and tried to like Trudy's, but I can't. True, it has a few things going for it. Good queso, endless amounts of chips, the Mexican Martini (complete with shaker and classy martini glass), and food that doesn't cost an arm and a leg. And yet... Service is so-so. I had one server who was really good and dealt with our huge party with ease. I had another server who was so morose and unfriendly that it put ME into a bad mood. All other times I've had a medley of other servers who were acceptable (polite, friendly, and direct. They did their jobs but didn't make an impression). The food is okay. I'm not a fan of Tex-Mex, but the migas are good. I've been unimpressed with the quesadillas but surprised by the tastiness of their burgers. So it's hit-or-miss. What I can't stand -- and what makes me dislike Trudy's -- is the atmosphere. It's always crowded. The downstairs seating area is way too loud. Everyone shouts over the noise of the speakers, and everyone shouts over everyone else, and you end up with a horrible din of people screaming. It's a restaurant, NOT a nightclub, so turn that shit down. When I asked our server (the really good one that otherwise impressed me) if there was any way to turn the music down, he said he'd ask, but it was probably not going to happen. What is the point of keeping the music that loud? I left with a headache. I remember the upstairs not being any better. They squeeze too many people into too small a space (I once watched a server do strange contortions to try to get around a chair and a structural pole and felt very sorry for him) and the decibel level is just ridiculous. The only place I like is the downstairs patio area. You don't have to wait for a host to seat you if you see an open spot. Despite the fact that my boyfriend took me to a Trudy's (though not this one; it was the one down south) on our first official date, and that one of my friends works at this Trudy's location, I still cannot like Trudy's and I will only go if dragged.
