by simon k. on I came here with my girlfriend and a bunch of hooligans for new years eve, the night before new years for an unforgettable, but easily forgettable night. it was posted that sloane had bought the additional size upgrade in the back in order to create a bigger, more spacious night club. Upon entering the club, the decor looked very suavy and nice. Greeted by my promoter buddies and freinds of all times, it was instantly a night ready to be enjoyed. we all had a few drinks, chit chatted about the venue, and looked over to find the most awkward dancers on the floor -(as it turns out it was I, a drunken skoala bear.) it was a beautiful club until it eventually got mega crowded. granted, it was new years eve and the club was being promoted by all 3 major promoters, however it became impossible to wave down the bartenders. as a result, the party was moved to the back where sloane proudly announced that it had a "newly renovated" sleek and classy place in the back to accomadate the big party it was throwing on NYE. it was all good until we entered the gym-styled back room. you know in middle school.. when u are at a school dance.. no matter how much the student government try to spice up the gym... you're still in a gym. you know it, your friends know it, and everyone else around you knows it. this was basically exactly how it felt like at sloane. despite the many costco fold out tables that were put out, despite the DJ set in the middle, despite all the drunken patrons getting their drink and dance on... it was still just a big white room with very little decorations. Now, I wouldn't mind a work-in-progress club on an ordinary night, but this was NEW YEARS EVE. this was the ONLY party out and the price of tickets were ever-increasing. I expected much much more at sloane for the price of tickets everyone had to pay, drink prices, and venue promotion clamour! the gym-space in the back was NOT what was advertised and I immediately noticed it upon entering. To make matters worst, they have the most inefficient coat check on the face of the planet. It was so slow until they brought in the mexican workers. When the mexican workers hopped into the coat check, everything went so much faster. my girlfriend and I probably waited 30 minutes, at the front of the line, to get 1 coat. With a legion of people trying to get their coats as well, it was an angry uphill battle throughout our wait. This experience has prompted me to never hit up sloane night club again. mmmhmm no wifive for sloane.
by Ed U. on So here's what I witnessed in front of the Temple on Saturday night... Two drunken girls - friends I was presuming - in tight skirts and stilettos on their cells. One stumbles to the ground. The other's immediate response is not to help her up. Nope, she snaps - "Get the f%$# up!" - just like that. That haunted me for the rest of the night..."GET THE F%$# UP!", she said. Would Dionne say that's what friends are for? As anyone who knows me if for one scintilla, I am not a club person. Yet, this is the second time I have been here - the first being a rateclubs Elite event last year. However, Jamie W. and I decided to pay the $36 a piece to attend their SF Pride QUEEN party. We thought it could be fun to catch a glimpse of Jody "I'm Lookin' for a New Love...Yeah, Yeah, Yeah" Watley ...and that's pretty much what we got, a glimpse. I didn't know how to dress, so I had a bit of anxiety over how to look cool and hip ...not anything I do with any flair in my advanced years. As it turned out, there were quite a few people of my advanced years there...and looking less fashionable than me, I might add. There was a fortyish woman with a Buster Brown wedge cut, and she was voguing to 50 Cents. I didn't even know there was a downstairs area, and I like the blue-lit area with the couches. The DJ was actually playing a lot of Michael Jackson and older Madonna, so I was happy until the bass kicked in and made me feel I was getting a Magic Fingers treatment on the sofa. There's a darker dungeon-like space next door, though I was afraid I would hit one of their faux-Asian statues. I dance Hullabaloo-style, don't you know...and if you don't, you're just too young. We finally made it back to the top where it was all writhing bodies, though the most frustrating strangers are the ones who hold your shoulder as they pass by ..."GET YOUR F%$#ING HANDS OFF OF ME!"...Oh no, I've become one of them. DRINKS - 2 stars...ridiculously priced cocktails...a P.I.N.K. martini was $10, so I stuck with $3 Peronis the rest of the night AMBIANCE - 4 stars...no doubt, a very cool space with three big areas for lounging though it was fairly packed starting at midnight SERVICE - 3.5 stars...not much to tell except they convey sign language well TOTAL - 3 stars...love the space, but between you and me, the crowd is kinda rude ..."GET THE F%$# UP!" ...can't get it out of my head
by Alane Mapel on Ay Chihuahua! Honestly, this place may be better then I think, but all I can remember is the bizarre conglomeration of people here on a Friday night. I went for drinks for a friend of a friend's birthday party, and I have to say even though I was among friends this place was really awkward. We spent the entire night out on the back patio, which is pretty cool looking, and it has its own bar. The bar was nice, but if you ordered certain things they would have to leave and go to the main bar for some reason. The bartender was REALLY weird to and once poured my drink and forgot to give it to me... I drank chilled Patron shots all night, and I still couldn't shake the weird vibe in this place so I ended up tromping over to the Beauty Bar with some friends. In my estimation this is not much of a social venue. Just a place to get a Margarita with your own friends... I have no reason to return
