The service was so unpersonalized. All of the workers were in a bubble of unnecessary self-importance. The food was whatever. I'm not a fan at all. It is an amazing space, but the service was the worst I ever had. And I almost never complain about service. I can't explain how awful this place is. I like the idea. I like the space. But I don't understand why anyone would ever go here more than once. And I don't recommend even trying it.

I can't believe I've never written a review. I've been here so many times. I often come for lounge acts w/ $5 covers, like singer-songwriter night on Sundays. The sushi is good (however lame, I am a sucker for California Rolls, especially in California). The space is nice/modern/Asian-inspired. The sound is great. It's sophisticated, but unpretentious. It's for all ages. I really like.

Though the Mayan Theatre is a club for some bands, especially ones from LA, to play at to seem like they've somewhat made a leap from the smaller stage of the Troubadour, I don't like this venue. I missed Phantom Planet play there, but caught Rilo Kiley before they could make it to the Wiltern. It's definitely at least a couple steps below the Wiltern in status and quality. This venue is proof that there are just too many and maybe the most concert venues in a town like Los Angeles. Local bands come home and play their last show at the Mayan sometimes. The sound is different. Drinks are expensive. It's located downtown.
