Dinner alone in ATL..where to go??? The bar at South City Kitchen in ATL! I wasn't lonely or hungry no more!!! Southern goodness and hospitality all at one spot. Sat at the bar...bartender Andrew was very welcoming, chatty, funny and attentive. I ordered a cup of she-crab soup...and wondered why I didn't get the bowl. It was creamy and yummy..and even better with the biscuit. Two biscuits and corn bread, I stopped at one biscuit to save room for the buttermilk fried chicken...I had half of the entree and I was so stuffed I couldn't breathe or talk!!! Had the mac and cheese, and mashed potatoes as sides...I can't put my finger on it but the sides had some kind of spice/taste that made it different from the regular America M&C or MP. No room but dessert but I had hot tea to quell the overwhelming deliciousness in my tummy. Andrew was very helpful in suggesting bars/clubs in ATL...wrote me a long list on receipt paper. Club Opera is right across from the restaurant and got busy quickly on a Friday night. South City Kitchen is along a strip of bars..so there's always somewhere else to head to for drinks and music after dinner. Tip-bits: Don't sit too near the bar area if you don't wanna smell like fried chicken. Park at the Bank of America parking up the slope/hill, it's FOC after hrs!!! :) Holler at Andrew for me!

My boyfriend just reviewed this place and although we have never been here together - I thought that I might chime in as well. I really enjoyed this little burger place. It makes eating a burger seem fancy in a very modern setting. I really LIKE the sweet potato french fries....Mmmmm!

Do you like zeitgeist? Do you think grungy "holes in the wall" are da coolest? Well Grandma and I would contend that you dont know grungy until you have taken a turn into her saloon. Don't be mistaken: this is not a dare; Grandma's is not a place for children...it is a place for real drinking, the kind of drinking san francisco used to be known for. There are no decorations, there are no cute bartenders, there are no windows. You just sit in there and drink. it can be kind of sad when you look around and see people that probably patronized ol' zeitgeist 20 years ago. On the plus side, a trip into Grandma's can be a very real experience, and also is a cheap start to what is guaranteed to be a totally weird night. I guess you should check it out...or maybe just forget it...im not really sure why i even reviewed it. Oh yeah, no one reads my reviews anyhow. I'm so depressed. I'm going to Grandma's.
