There's no shortage of good pizza in Austin, but when I am craving a pie with fresh toppings piled onto a perfectly concocted thin crust, Red House always delivers. I have only gone during happy hour (guilty, as charged, of being a true bargain hunter) but their half priced pizzas ($7 for 14'' of greatness) are such a steal! The goodies on top are always fresh and blend wonderfully together and the crust and sauce really make it a great meal. Paired with some fries (which are always hot and delicious) and some mediocre dipping sauce (shrug, ketchup gets the job done just as well), you get plenty of (less than healthy) food, on the cheap. Win win win! I've sat both outside and inside and both experiences have been lovely. The checkered oil cloths are to be expected and the horse art is nothing short of kitsch, but the staff is friendly and the overall vibe is spot on.

Mezzanine is pretty much Ruby Sky's opposite - the music can be hit or miss (*see below), but the crowd is respectful and there is plenty of room to dance. Otherwise, the sound is exceptional, drinks are pretty cheap (for a club), and I love the urban loft vibe. Now if we can just get some more dance on the schedule - I'd love to see Mark Farina make a return to the booth or someone like Markus Schultz throw down some trance epics. I'll be there front and center, and likely in a good state of shock that I actually have room to dance. *Last night's BFD after-party was a perfect example. IMHO, Motor was terrible, MSTRKRFT was tolerable, and Moby was good, though would have been much better were it not for what came before him.

This place is legendary on Tuesday nights with DJ Romeo Cologne. The other nights of the week feature indy bands. It's a great place with a lot of character, but really needs to step it up and fix the beer cooler (PBR is bad enough, at least serve it cold), the AC, and the toilets. The place seems to be on auto pilot at this point. The cover on Tuesdays keeps going up as well, they know they can get it. The surly staff doesn't speak any longer, they sort of just grunt a lot.
