Lured by the happy hour specials (6-9pm daily), we were delighted with the specialty drinks but shocked by how empty the place was. After going to so many bars, I've never seen an impressive array of specialty and season drinks as I have in Ella. Who can resist drinks like Clark Gable, Ritz Carlton, and Ella? At that time, Ella was made with freshly squeezed grapetfruit witnessed right in front of your face. Dark, retro, and sexy, this place is reminscent of the speakeasys back in the 20s and 30s and fittingly speaks to the great Ella. There's also a downstairs space for live shows and private events.
by Ahmad R. on Update. Went back to slide for a second and FINAL time. I still have no problem with the venue, decor etc. but they are officially ridiculous on their anti guy policy. No, im not complaining because i didnt get let it. Im angry because me and a few friends spent a chunk of change on bottles and one guy who was late had all sorts of problems getting in. We eventually had to get up, get the slimy dude who sat us at the table in order to get him in and that took a while for him to go up and do it after we spoke with him. NO APOLOGY WAS OFFERED for the inconvenience. All the dude had to do was say "sorry man". It was not a particularly packed night with almost no line outside. It didnt need to take forever. I wish them well but hopefully they will feel it on their $$ bottom line when their club has lost the "it" factor. You can only treat paying customers like this for so long. Maybe the it factor has worn off..... ***************************** You know, i just don't get it.... I don't get why bars exist with really loud (albeit solid) music but nobody dances. Why do people do this?? Slide is a wonderful space. Anytime you can go above or below ground to party, I'm good to go. The basement feel definitely feels classy and chic. The venue feel is definitely upscale, which I like. Unfortunately, "upscale" in SF also includes lots of late 30's white dudes trying to pick up on younger girls. If that's what ladies are looking for, you've found it. No problem with the location. Right next to skye but definitely a different crowd. This is good cause I am no fan of that place. Drink service was quick enough. It was packed and I will give the bartendress who helped me a gold star cause she kept me filled up without keeping me waiting. I reserve to change the rating if they make a choice...Either turn the music down so i can talk to the beautiful young ladies here or turn it up and lets dance. Maybe the crowd is to blame instead of the club owner. Ill definitely give this place another shot.
