I don't know who threw this night, but it was the coolest night I have ever gone to in sf!! There was a liquor sponsor that had a standing photographer that would take photos of us like it was prom, and it was all night long.. it was pretty fun after a couple of drinks hahaa... HAIRSTYLIST TO TOUCH UP YOUR HAIR! like how awesome was that, and like shot girls running around bringing you shots! it was totally awesome!!!!! The music was 80's in one room, and top 40's in the other..and it was like yin and yang ..so cool, if you didn't like one song in that room, just walk over to the other one!!! LOVES IT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! will come back, but I guess if I do I might have to come back during happy hour.. that's the word on the street from what I hear....

First of all. PURE IS A GAY CLUB. IT IS IN THE HEART OF THE GAYBORHOOD. IT IS NOT A STRAIGHT HIPSTER CLUB. Sorry that the drinks are expensive, but if you hipsters have a problem with it, stick to your dank little dive bars with your $3 Pabst and Jim Beam shots. And stop kvetching about the membership thing. It's an after-hours club, meaning it serves alcohol past the state mandated closing time for bars. That is why you have to be a member to purchase alcohol. But don't give this club a bad review because you came to some stupid hipster event. I've veen to making time before, and I've seen you people throw trash everywhere and treat the bartenders like crap. I can't begrudge Pure for selling out to straight people once in a while, but for goodness sake, act like adults. Gay people just go there to get drunk and meet people to hookup with, you guys come to Pure to cause trouble, moan about drink prices and yell at bartenders because they're not getting your stupid Red Bulls and Vodkas fast enough. Coming to Pure on making time nights is just proof that gays are more culturally advanced than straights, even when we're drunk, shirtless and trying to get our groove on with other hot guys. Straight people have your own bars, hundreds in them in Philadelphia. We've got just a handful, and Pure is one of the best. Think about that before giving a pissy 2 star review.

I've been to the Orpheum twice recently, for PJ Harvey and Cake, and so I am now able to better tell what's good or bad. First the good- It's a beautiful place, all done up like the theaters in the L.A. Theater District all used to look. They have box seating on both sides of the theater with 4 or 6 seats to each. If you get a chance to get seats there grab them! The men's bathroom downstairs is the one to use, as it's very big. The one upstairs will usually have a wait. The ground level bar usually has a line, so sneak downstairs to the bar and hang out in the seating area down there while the opening bands play. There's also a convenient bar upstairs and is a great place to hang out enjoying the view of the architecture. The stage views are great and so is the sound. Now the bad- The area is not getting much redevelopment, with no place nearby to eat good food, just fast food. Lots of bums and bad smells. The ground level bar off to the left is just an add-on room and does not blend in well with the old, art deco style of the Orpheum. For some reason there are long lines here. Mostly with folks just trying to get drunk and avoid the opening bands! There is not much legroom in the old, uncomfortable seats. I was front row in the balcony and front row at the stage and had to stand up or twist myself in order to let the late comers and frequent bathroom visitors get by! Like everyplace else, there's too much freakin' security! Mostly they are preventing you from enjoying yourself and not helping anyone. While upstairs I put my plastic cup down on a rail to take a photo of the roof and a guard comes running over to remove it! One guy was standing to my left at the front of the row, by the stage, staring out at the crowd for the whole show. There are so many one can't help but wonder how much cheaper our tickets would be if they'd replace them with robots! Or cams! Pluses- I got there early in an attempt to beat the 1+ hour drive from Santa Monica and dropped into the Broadway Bar next door. It was cold outside and inside but I ordered a hot pizza (had it delivered) and ate and drank while listening to the different songs being played on the jukebox. The decor is great and there is an outdoor smoking area which should be great during warmer weather.
